Very pretty!! I'm going to redo one of the flower beds to be red-orange-yellow. I wondered how poppies would do, it gets full sun after 8:00-8:30am.

I so love orange this time of year!! I have Forget-Me-Nots all over and anything that blooms orange, well, it just pops. Just bought an Azalea Northern Lights and it's orange and my Fritilarias are blooming the same orange right now.

That is so pretty!! If you get seeds, I'd love to have some. :O) T'would be nice. I have reds but don't see buds right now. Maybe later. Such a gorgeous colour!

Brandymulvaine: I do not get full sun in any part of this garden because it is north facing so your sun should be fine for poppies.

Linda: This does re-seed but not readily. This patch, which is perennial, came from one plant, which I was told would not "take". I have had these for about 10 years and they are still manageable. This is the first year I have seen a few extras behind the clump. They certainly do not turn up 'everywhere'.

Tiffy: I know what you mean about orange 'popping' at this time of year. These have forget-me-nots in front, dame's rocket (mostly pale lilac) to the left, Ajuga reptans (blue/purple) to the right, and lilacs in bloom behind and overhead so it's a lovely sight. I grew some from seed last year. Planted in Feb. and had 2 blooms by spring, but by Fall they were 5 plants. I planted them out in fall, but they did not bloom this year, maybe because of the late planting and the fact that they are near my day lily patch which does not get very much full sun. I will put you on my list for seeds and will send you as soon as I harvest them. Last year Lakehead University took all my seeds and the ones from the year before. Apparently it is an old variety and not readily available.

Nice pic, northerner, and just great timing! I had this very poppy bloom yesterday for the very first time. At least it looks the same. It was given to me as just 'double poppy'. It was a very tiny piece, and even though it didn't look very healthy, or like it would live, it hung on. I was so surprised to see it when I walked around the front of the house! I will be sure to collect the seed and make sure that I grow more and hopefully share. There was only one bloom, but hopefully there was at least another bud hidden in the foliage. I am not even sure where I got it. I have to be more diligent with my record keeping!! :)

Hi gg: This clump which is quite large now also started from one little discard. I was buying divisions from a lady who had a sign up about ten years ago at least. I bought a pink bleeding heart and a varigated Hosta and there was this thing lying there. She said it was a poppy but that they don't transplant well anyway,but I could have it. Knowing nothing about gardening I brought it home and put it in a POT and it survived the winter. Then I moved it to its present spot and it slowly grew to this size, but didn't flower for another year or two. They are very hardy, but if you saw my post above, it's because they spread by their roots. That's also why you don't find them all over the yard. They last quite well as cut flowers - I brought some in today because I have lots and the rain is destroying them. When you sow, sow heavily because this is apparently not their favourite method of propogation.
