The first one looks like Red Maple, Acer rubrum.

The yellow one looks like Sugar Maple, Acer saccharum.

I agree the first picture looks like Red maple, but the yellow leaves look more like Norway maple too me.

So how does Sugar Maple and Norway maple differ? I can go back to the tree tomorrow and take more pictures. What parts of the tree do you want me to check?

To double-check the Norway, get a close-up pic of the lead bud(s) at the end of a shoot. Plump glossy red or red-and-green is Norway, conical matt brown is Sugar.

Also look for any seeds: Norway is flat disc-shaped, Sugar is globose.

In spring and summer, you can also tell very easily by breaking a leaf stem; Norway bleeds white sap, Sugar bleeds clear colourless sap, but it doesn't work well with fallen leaves.

Break off a leaf or a small twig. If it oozes a milky sap, it's Norway Maple. If doesn't, it's sugar or black maple.

And, as attractive as Norway maples can be, they are also quite invasive in most parts of the country where they have been introduced since they produce lots of seeds, and as well, have very prominent surface roots which suck up all available moisture, and heavy shade, so little else will grow under them, including most lawn grasses. Not a good tree to keep planting, although they were once very popular as shade tree plantings and as street trees - they are tough and adaptable to many situations - which is another reason they are invasive.

Red maples are a native North American tree, and cultivars have been selected for growth habits and for fall color. The fall color may not be as intense as advertised for the first few years after planting, while the tree settles in to its location. The screwy weather this fall, over much of the country, also made fall colors not show up, either not at all or not as normal.

With those long pointed tips I'd be inclined to call the yellow one a sugar maple also. Seeing the rest of the tree would decide it.

Resin

The tree in front of your house is clearly a red maple, Acer rubrum. As to the other one somewhere else, it is probably a sugar maple but the way to distinguish sugar from Norway this time of year is to press your thumb down hard on the bud at the end of any twig. If it hurts, is is a sugar maple.

Norway maples also have comparatively stout twigs and big terminal buds. The whole tree looks utilitarian and robust.
