I managed to find one from Smith & Hawkins at Target. It was in an expensive kit, but I decided to purchase it because they are so hard to find.

The bloom was, for me, much larger than Picotee. The red edging not as dark or vivid as I have seen in pictures, but that may be due the the fact that it was forced and bloomed early without as much light.

Seeing my European friends' pictures of President Johnson, it is exactly as you describe it. The red edging is not as pronounced as Picotee for sure. It would be nice to get it though. I will look out for one in the future.

There's a marked difference between Ninecrow and Ciconia's President Johnson flowers... although, Ninecrow's bulb is very mature... that may be where the difference lies... perhaps Ciconia's will look similar as it ages and produces more blooms...

Might also be the growing condtions as well... The window he's in is VERY Sunny... And the blooms tend to nod... Will try a different spot this time around

One of the Dutch commercial growers is producing this and has it in their website. Maybe it will be offered soon here in US.

Yours looks just like mine. I had two scapes, not a lot of time for pollination, but I did self one and it produced many seeds.

I actually like this one better than Picotee. I think it is because of the size of the bloom. It also seems to have a better form.

Let us know how you do with crossing it. I know this one is special to you!

Ninecrow's blooms remind me of my Picotee a bit, although President Johnson is even nicer! My Picotee had very thin, faded red edging... a lot less red than catalog photos indicate for the variety. I think I like the President Johnson better!

Yes it is my President Johnson cindeea that's growing a Scape between 2 leaves instead of in front of...
The scape has grown out now so NO stubby flowers like your Novella...

Nine-It is looking stunning. I haven't been on much, even though I am still getting another flush of blooms on Red Lion, Exotic Star (getting seed pods too!!) also my Vlammenspel has a wonderful spike and another small one is coming up on Lemon and Lime. Man, I've never had Amaryllis blooming this late. I feel blessed! Can't wait to see your blooms 9!

On another note...this was Dennis's first OFF week from Chemo. Sheesh, he finally starts getting stronger and putting on some weight, then it's back to chemo on Friday. Thank you all for your emails and for thinking about us. I won't be scheduling my surgery until after he is done with Chemo (6 more weeks) and he is back to work. They're not fully open, though, so I wouldn't judge it quite yet! The colors are certainly lovely, and I think as it opens more, it will prove to be much prettier!

I wasn't very impressed when my Picotee first opened, but its second scape was really beautiful... so I've learned to give bulbs a chance before deciding they're not worth the effort!

Oops... it appears that I hit the wrong button, and my computer reloaded the message I originally sent!

I believe the only way to get identical plants is to clone... but I could be mistaken. I'm a lot more familiar with breeding dogs, and those can't be "selfed"! LOL!

There was a message recently regarding this, and I'm not sure what the outcome was... I can't remember. I believe Lora provided the correct answer. I don't want to steer you wrong...
