Hi Tanya, this is quite a list and I don't have experience with many of them but I would hold on to the Salvias - some of mine are just starting; re-sow the cilantro and lavatera. Hope you had success with some others.

It's my understanding that clematis can take two years to germinate. I had a container of actaea cimicufuga racemosa germinate this spring after two winters. Still waiting on several clematis.

What a bummer. :( Do you have any guesses why so many didn't? I'm just wondering cuz I had a lot not germinate either. I wonder if it's our warmer climate or more that just this year's weather or something. Sorry again, I don't know much about the specific plants.

thanks for all the opinions. i am gonna hang on awhile longer as i am a die hard or try the seeds again. most of the perennials were sown in jan and feb. we had an unusually long cold winter. the yvonnes salvia was left over from a trade from last year. two germinated then toasted. i had 10 seeds though. so maybe they'll still come up. thanks people!!

If you dump, dump strategically! dump it in a place you wouldn't mind seeing that plant (or even the place you intended to put it in your garden). You could be surprised, especially by the perennials, in it popping up next year. That has happened to me with coral bells and some other things.

I've had mixed experiences with Daturas. Two years ago was the first time I had one germinate. I overwintered it and got blooms on it the following year. I sowed some indoors and put some of those that weren't germinating outdoors (in a milk jug). Low and behold, I have healthy seedlings of Bellle Blanche (though not the other three types that I had with it). So maybe some Dats like to be scarred, soaked, inside at 70 degrees for two weeks, then outside in the cold. That's what shocked 'em to life for me.

Tanya i VERY much agree with Linda, i also think that the bleeding hearts (sorry to dissagree) are fine, they did well for me this year, i had mine a long time, and finally put them out to ws them. they germinated. no one had told me about the germination rule. well....also i'm one of those people who are like.....hmmmmm......lets just see if they'll work anyhow, if they don't no big loss!! LOL :')) Medo

JL Hudson, seedsman sells some of their datura seeds already GA-3 pretreated, sure sign indicating for me that they are tough seeds to germinate/ not all varieties but some/. Since I am comfortable working with Ga-3 I just treat them all anyway.
Ga-3 can be an excellent solution for many difficult seeds/ not all/ I am having great success with anemone seeds- japonicas, lesseri even astrantia which was tough plant even from my own collected seeds did beautifully.
I agree with strategic dumping. Have found few treasures that way.... in wrong place...

my monarda is JUST NOW coming up, so maybe the weather is making it act wierd. ??? i'm one of those people who hang onto seeds forever!! LOL then finally dump that soil into another container if i need it and use it. LOL yes, very bad!!!! LOL maybe someday i will finally have my banana's!! LOL **big grinn**
