OT: Seed question

This is a propagation question, but you WS people are so helpful that I'd rather try you first.

My wood poppy (Stylophorum diphyllum) is putting out seeds now that I'd like to sow. When I look on the Internet, I get conflicting messages--the seeds should be sown immediately, but in the fall. How can this be for a plant that flowers in early spring and then sets seed in late spring?

I had wanted to save the seeds in the fridge then sow them this winter (or fall if that's best), but now I'm hopelessly confused. I'd rather not direct-sow the seeds, but I also don't want them to die in storage. Can anyone help me out with this dilemma?
