Did you happen to get your Ruby Meyer from either Willow Creek Gardens or Easy to Grow Bulbs (they are the same company)? I ask because yours looks exactly like the one I received from Willow Creek Gardens and it is not Ruby Meyer. After checking with a few different folks, we believe it to be Bogota. You can check out the pic of Bogota on the Royal Colors website. Ruby Meyer is very red and Sprekelia looking (did I spell that right?). It is beautiful anyway. Willow Creek is sending me a replacement Ruby Meyer. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it is a true Ruby Meyer.

That is why I asked... It sure looks like my Bogota from RC.

I actually thought Ruby looked a little off... but I wasn't sure. She's from EasyToGrow... she does look like Bogota, which I wanted anyway, but I really wanted a Ruby Meyer! Damn! Well, that figures!

She's about 5 inches from petal tip to petal tip, and there are 3 buds/blooms on the first scape.

Just when I thought everything was going well... besides the Pink Diamond that turned into a stressed Minerva and the stressed Jungle Bells that aborted its scapes. Wouldn't you know it... well, I guess I better call EasyToGrow tomorrow and tell them the good news.

When I think about all the mislabels and all the problems we've all encountered, just within the last two seasons... it makes me wonder about what's going on at grower level. Are we, meaning the United States, getting the bottom of the barrel? Or are the growers experiencing some difficulties lately? Or just what is really going on? We're not that large of a group, really, and we've got quite a few problem bulbs between us... so, what's the problem, I'm wondering? Ok... done ranting.

Frank, Agapanthus is more like a perennial rootstock, and not a real bulb. But I love the flowers, judging by the photos I've seen. I picked up a good sized rhizome, already growing in its bag, for under $5 at Lowe's. I bet you could find some locally, too. I have to grow mine in a pot so I can bring it in for the winter, but I think it's hardy to zone 7. Don't quote me! You should look into it... it comes in several sizes and shades of blue, and there's a white variety, too.

The Seed Dungeon is coming along... lots of stuff popping! I'm presently planting rootstock and bulbs, hoping for some decent size by spring. I still have some seeds to start, and I might do that either tonight or tomorrow.

I just went to emaryllis.com and it looks like neither Ruby Meyer nor Bogata. Check out Lima or La Paz!

I have La Paz, and this is definitely not La Paz... I'd wager it's a Bogota. I just checked the International Bulb Society gallery, and it's not Lima or La Paz. It almost looks like Grandeur, but that one has a more "hybrid" look to it.

After viewing one of Maria's photos of Bogota, I suspect that's exactly what it is.

It's quite beautiful and I love it!

That's what I get for putting on my Sherlock Holmes flapped cap! Gotta give me an "E" for effort!

I'd give you an "A" for effort, Kristi! Given environmental variables, such as they are, and the fact that mine's not quite mature yet... I'd lay money that it's Bogota. And I never bet unless it's a sure thing!

Give it a few days, and I'll take a new photo... I bet there will be slight changes. We'll compare photos then...

Since we both received Bogota, I have a feeling that their entire supply of Ruby Meyers may actually be Bogota. Don't get me wrong, it is beautiful, but I already have a Bogota from Royal Colors and really want a Ruby Meyer. It's too bad that we both live in Zone 5 and it is freezing here right now. I know that both Amaryllis.com and John Scheepers have Ruby Meyer. I'd love to order one, but I'm afraid the bulbs will freeze in this weather. Oh to live somewhere warm.

Jodi and rcfish, funny how it just depends... certainly doesn't look at all like my Ruby M... yet I ordered Bogota from WFF and it arrived FROZEN (they had sold out and couldn't replace). I have not had the easiest time with RM, very finicky small bulb for me. Pretty, but I have not excelled in my "husbandry" with her. Got blooms my first year (easy enough), last year I recieved another scape and blooms from a sad looking bulb. I don't expect anything this year however. My RM has small very cybisterish blooms- spidery, small, all red on the outside. She is pretty but always makes me feel so insecure, like, will this bulb ever bloom again? The plant didn't fill up with leaves even outside, gosh I'd rather a Bogota, Jodi, you are SO lucky!

Agree with Bogota there Jodi.Sometimes you must look past the most obvious and look at smaller things.ie The color of the stamina can help you in this group of Hipps.It seems there are many versions of Grandeur that are not so Grand.Yet they are sold under that name..It's the old "Slip you the Mutt" game again...It's a Handsome Hipp regardless! I agree with you Mark, it looks like Bagota to me and it is definitely a handsome hipp.

Jodi will you be selfing these gorgeous cybisters? I would love some of these seeds if you were able to pollinate them.
My quest for Cybisters here in Australia continues!

Agapanthus are really hardy here in Australia, they are grown in mass on the side of the streets and when in flower look spectacular!

Bogota is a killer! Love the colour and the shape of the petals!

As disappointed as I am that I don't have a Ruby Meyer, I'm equally pleased that it turned out to be Bogota... that was one on my wish list! To me, all cybisters are wonderful, and I am enjoying Bogota! It's quite lovely!

Yes, I will be selfing it, and also trying other crosses since there are two scapes, and the first scape has 3 blooms. I thought I'd drool over it for a couple of days, and then breed it.

Larry thinks it's awesome, and says I should be thrilled that I got one that was on my list... and he says that next year, we'll look for Ruby Meyer. Plus, if I get a replacement, it's a free bulb... so what do I have to complain about? Nothing, really!

Red Peacock is slowly opening that huge scape... each day it brings it a little closer to being photographed again! Don't worry... I'll post as soon as she pops! She should be a giant beauty dressed in red!

I was hoping to find "Peter Pan" Agapanthus as that one is a dwarf variety and would be easier to keep indoors, but I'll take what I can get! I am charmed by the blue flowers, and the plant has been on my list of items to get for a while now! I'm glad I found one locally!

When I do finally obtain a Ruby Meyer, I'll keep in mind that it's a bit finicky... perhaps it just likes drier conditions as some prefer. My Germa bulbs are finicky, but they're doing well. The bulb I can't figure out is Amputo! I've had it for two years, and it sleeps for most of the time! It does grow intermittently, but seems to spend more time napping! And it's never bloomed for me!
