We're in the wrong business...this 'near-free' plants via WSing

So I'm at the nursery at lunchtime picking out some annuals that didn't germ for me. Get this:

Most everything is potted into 1 qt containers for $3. I have no issues with this on the perennial side, as this is about the going rate for a 1 qt P around here.

What I *DO* take issue with:

1 (ONE) Zinnia in a 1 qt container for $3

1 (ONE) Marigold in a 1 qt container for $3

1 (ONE again) of ANY annual in a 1 qt pot for $3

And people were obviously paying it! They were slightly lower on their 6-packs (2.75 vs. the 2.99 4-packs that I've been seeing a lot of lately), but the pots...that was just INSANE!

That having been said...If you WS 16 (larger) seeds per milk jug, that's $48 per jug of the larger stuff. Going for a 'decent' $40k/yr living, you'd need to sell 13,000 seedlings at that $3 rate (833+ containers).

Or if you got an $8/hr job for full-time, you could sell 7,787 pots over the summer to make up the difference (200 pots on each weekend day).

I dropped a $20 at this nursery- on 3 6-packs of coleus, and 4 containers of perennial Violas.

Crazy this business of plants it is.
