re-pot and ID help please

Hi Everyone! Well I have been putting this off and finally this morning we took 8 bulbs out of a 10" pot and we were only able to separate 2 of the bulbs. The rest are locked together like a klister and I don't have the heart to take a knife to this bunch. The bulbs all look good all nice and round and not really pressing too much on one another. In the center if you can see one small bulb split in two like some of you have experienced. I am going to take the lazy way out and re-pot the group in the same 10" pot, worry about it another year, and give the other two away. My question is, do any of you think that this is 'Carmen' or 'Orange Sovereign'? I've had this bulb for over 10 years and it multiplies like rabbits and alway gives 2 or 3 stalks with 4 or 5 flowers and the flowers are over 6" wide. The pictures are more orange than the actual flower, being more like the color of the bird the Cardinal, an orangy red but definitely a lot of red. I always called it Cardinal Red, but last year I bought my father a 'Carmen' and thought it looked like it, but this year I'm not so sure. Then, I thought it might be 'Orange Sovereign', bought another one, ended up with 2 through mislabels and they are both much lighter in color and texture than the old one. if you look at the pictures from last year, maybe some of you have some opinions.

I discovered a bublet growing directly on the bottom of the basil plate, is that normal(?), I guess I'll just leave it there......

It looks a lot like Orange Sovereign to me.

Hi Ann, Well, I originally thought it might be Orange Sovereign, but it contained so much red I wasn't sure.....so this year I bought 1 plant labeled OS for a comparison, but it was a a softer Orange and didn't have the red. I ended up with another through mislabel that was the same as the one I bought for comparison, and back a bit there was a thread on OS and others as well as myself posted their OS and they looked like my second one, not my original. I had
thought my second 2 were Naranga, but I believe the consensus was OS. I guess with these oranges one can never be sure.
Here is my second OS which I think is Naranja. See what you think.........

The above 3 pictures were taken today without flash and with the back lighting from the window the flower is almost translucent.
My original pictures in the first post are of a much thicker texture as well as much redder. Thanks for any insight you can shed on these oranges. They are definitly not the same plant, that much I am sure of.(I think) Thanks!!

Congratulations ! Great shopping spree. They are all beautiful. I am not able to help to ID the plants,but #5 I have all over. They are very hardy and your plant,will live. I think it was a milk bowl for a hand cranked cream separator. See the link below to see a similar item and its relation to the other parts. The round hole at the bottom would have been fitted with a spigot to control the flow of raw milk into the separator. You may have to manually copy this link to your url address bar. If the soil is poor, I'd take off most of the soil. Breaking some roots is ok, but try not to break them if possible. I would also cut off the flower stalks, as when they die, they look very unsightly because they never fall off.

Generally new roots are white and more mature roots may appear brown. If they were firm then they were perfectly healthy roots. Rotted roots will be dark, soft, and sludgey. Your plant may not survive if you removed too much of its root system. Additionally, you don't want a medium that retains water as that will suffocate the plant. The new soil you placed the palm in looks quite dense and wet and is likely causing issues. The plant will not thrive under these conditions. The plant would do much better in a fast draining mix with lots of bark, such as a cactus/succulent mix or a homemade mix described by Al in these threads. A second repot would cause the plant additional stress, however I think its chances of surviving in its current water retentive soil are very slim. Hopefully others can chime in with advice.

I won't say anything about the flower itself, I have no insight whatsoever into the small differences between such speciemen. But for the clustering: I'd leave it like it is, just try to remove the dead parts and repot it in a slightly larger pot. Even if they seem cramped till now, they'll do fine further on. And it's the best thing to do if you don't want to throw bulblets away, since in the remote future they'll have no space to multiply further more once no substrate can be seen anymore ;)

Hi Carl, I am going to do just that! Gave 2 away and the rest are still together and I'm going to replant them as a cluster! Last year a had about 8 stalks over a month blooming and they were awesome. Since none of the bulbs look squashed, I think they will be fine! Thanks!!
