Tree recommendation for good blind?

Hi - first time poster. Our house (in Atlanta) is located in the back of subdivision that backs up to vacant land. A developer has purchased the land and cleared out all of the trees. They are now putting up about 15 houses, one of them directly behind our back fence. :( I have linked to a few pics to show how close the house is. So much for privacy! We only have a mimosa tree and dogwood back there which does not make a good barrier.

We have a small backyard so there is little room to plant on our side of fence. However, we own a few feet of land behind our back fence that is currently a tangle of bushes and shrubs. The area is more like a ditch - 4-5 feet wide, and backs up to a stone wall. Our thought is get trees planted ASAP before construction on the house behind us finishes. Can anyone recommend a species of tree that will work as a good blind? We need something tall and able to grow quickly and thrive in Georgia's climate. The root system/footprint would need to be a little smaller because of the enclosed area. We are thinking about Leyland Cyprus's (they are all over Atlanta); however I am not a big fan of how Leyland's look. Any recommendations on what else is out there?

Thanks,

J
