You guys! This has been the most fun thing I've found since sewing...and that was 50 years ago.

I've WS out lots of flowers& herbs. Veggies=carrots (doing well; I can't believe it) and spinach.

Rest of veggies haven't sprouted yet so some I've also direct sowed...

green peppers

green beans

peas

TOMATOES :( (haven't DS'd them yet)

I've learned so much from you all this year I am thrilled with my garden and it's raised lasagna beds. I can just hear your advice when I'm out there and a question. It's like having a "silent partner" in the garden.

Go, be fruitful & multiply! (ie: tell your friends, family, and anyone who will listen!)

The other day I redirected a solicitation from a JW into a mini-toot on WSing. I should have exchanged pamphlets with him, but didn't have a WS one at my fingertips. That would have been funny (thank you for the pamphlet on how to 'grow' my offspring...here's a pamphlet on how to grow your gardens!)

Hi JD! My only concern with your covered area is that it may be *too* sheltered. Your containers will need moisture from the weather (rain, snow, etc.). As far as sun, my containers are in pretty much full sun, but I know others who keep them in shadier conditions. I don't think it matters much until the weather warms, and then it matters as far as temps and moisture. The more sun they are in the faster they dry out, and you'd have to be careful of too much warmth, especially if the containers are too closed up. But it's not a big deal - just takes a bit more observation. Bulbs - well, you can't winter-sow the bulbs themselves, but you can wintersow seeds that will grow into bulbs. I've never done it, but I know others have. Best of luck to you! I love your enthusiasm! (And the fact that you shred those darn credit card offers too! Neil,I have no idea what it will do in z-5. I was surprised it was a perennial here,being the packet and other sources I seen said it was an annual! To be safe sow it as an annual,I did last year, and had blooms all summer long on it. It is a really good grower and seems to be pretty tolerant. I had clumps out back on the south facing hill,along the side of my house that has late day part sun,and out front under the blue spruce,also part sun. The ones out back getting the southern light did the best,although the other clumps were not too shabby!;) I thought this was going to be a delicate plant,it is by no means delicate,it just looks and smells that way!;) Just remember when in doubt,hold back a bit of seed. Those seeds go along way,and you know where you can find more if you forget!:) Carrie! You are so welcome!:)

Thanks so much everyone! kqcrna, thanks for the congrats on the Joe Pye. I'm pretty sure the seeds were some Eupatorium purpureum seeds that I got from Prairie Moon. I remember the sprouts were kind of tiny until suddenly they started really growing in July once I planted them out. Maybe they just like our mucky clay soil? Trudi, thanks very much for the nice words...I love old-fashioned flowers too...they seem to go with our old house I guess. I'm really amazed at the Star of Yelta too! I'm planning to sow it again next year. I really like the WS forum and have learned so much...I also like the vibe on the forum too, and never felt dumb asking a question because everyone has been so cool and helpful. pvick, thank you...and by the way I love the eggplant photo you posted in the other thread. Wow!!

Your flowers are beautiful, as everyone else has already stated. I just love your canterberry bells, the color is spectacular. There is a flower in back of the Alyssium in the first picture, it's at the far right in that picture, what is that plant? It appears to be pink but that may not be correct. I would love to know, it looks very striking, as all the rest of your flowers do. Please feel free to post more photos.

I can't thank everyone enough for all the advice and knowledge here! I have never had such a high success rate growing from seed, I am a bit overwhelmed with all the green babies I have! And so excited because so many from my Newbie pack and Trudi are new to me! Lot's of wonderful folks here.

Yes, it has been fun. Even if some of my
seedlings croaked. And, some never germinated.

I know I will never
go back to taking my chances with my expensive
seeds and just DS'ing into the garden. Well, except
for a few super germinators.
