Trees in a lawn

1st off - thankyou for all the good advice The Truth about Tree Planting - most helpful. & thankyou for saving me from planting an Empress Tree in my yard. That was close!

I live in southern Utah, zone 6/7 (we're right on the line) & would like to plant a tree or two in my backyard. Most of it is grass & watered regularly (once or twice a week, maybe 3 times in the heat of the summer) with a sprinkling system, so I'm looking for a tree that can be planted in a grass lawn, tolerates heat, full sun & clay soil that's a little enriched (lots of compost tilled in when we planted grass). We also have a lot of heavy winds in the wintertime.

I'm thinking about a poplar hybrid (Eastern Cottonwood & Black Poplar), a Thornless Honeylocust or maybe some Quakies. I got these reccommendations from the Arbor Day Foundation. We already have 2 cottonless cottonwoods way at the back of our property & a couple mulberry trees.

Thanks!

Emily
