I hope so, cause I JUST got germination on mine! Trying for the first time too. Hopefully someone will chime in that they are a wonderful garden plant. I want to use at at the front of the border. Are your's the pink ones from Livingston seed?
I planted soapwort seeds from a trade. I ws them and now they are planted out by some stones in my garden bed. so far no blooms but they are growing nicely. I am not sure if it is the trailing type or not though.
I wsed this plant for a previous garden, and I loved it. I sowed more this year at my new house, and it has sprouted, but they are not very big yet, still just seed leaves I think.
Anyway, I highly recommend it, it is a cute trailing plant, the flowers are small and pink. It's a perennial, so like most perennials it doesn't flower for long, but while it does, it's nice. Mine was planted at the front of the border, and had a nice trailing effect. I'm sure it will look wonderful hanging over a wall.
While they might not bloom this year for those of us just starting to get sprouts, Dawiff can you remember what time of the season they did bloom? I am trying to "mix up" the front of my walkway beds so that there is something blooming all the time . My Alyssum "Basket of gold" is blooming it's head off now - spilling on to the walkway, looks great. I think this pink would look great next store to it, but if it is anotehr srping bloomer I'll put it elsewhere.
nan-6161 - I'm growing it from purchased seed and it sprouted well in all the jugs. I recall the seed pack said it bloomed in spring but here's what's on www.perennials.com: Rock Soapwort is a vigorous, low creeping plant, useful for spilling down sunny slopes or over rock walls. Plants form a low mound of bright-green leaves, literally smothered by starry bright-pink flowers in late spring. Also useful as an edging in the sunny border, and worth considering in tubs or pots. Prune plants back hard immediately after blooming, to maintain a compact habit. Clumps may be easily divided in late summer or early spring. Drought tolerant once established. Evergreen. I don't have a rock wall that needs anything (the one I've got is already covered in periwinkle/vinca vine) but I figure it'll look nice at the edge of a bed somewhere.
Wow, that all sounds good! Thank you for looking it up! I started the seeds in a flat of cell packs and I have such a nice germination. 3-4 per cell. I am looking forward to just being able to pop them out and plant.
I don't have a rock wall either (on my wish list!) but I am hoping it will spill a bit on to the wide paver pathway leading up to the front door through my front beds.
