Killing Populus stumps, to keep them from re sprouting.

I've got some approx 15-20 year old Populus tremuloides trees that will need to come out (multiple leaders, leaning towards home, and planted way too close to home as in 5' from foundation).

I do know that once they finally get cut down they are going to sprout everywhere as their root system is extensive.

What to do??

I figured maybe glyphosate on the fresh stumps, but would it even translocate to the root tips?

Any other ideas? Thanks.
