What these be? --Lots of pics.

As most of you know, I didnt have much time last year to do anything, which included labeling. :( Now Im all sorts of confused on what I have.

As for this year I wont have much time either, as Im going to be working 2 jobs. UGH! But ya gotta do what ya gotta do right? Besides the weather hasnt been much help either. But Im gonna try to do a little this weekend.

Anyways on to the pics. ( sorry if there are doubles)

1 makes a yellow flower, it's kinda weedy so yank it after it blooms.

2 is foxgloves

3 is likely a burnet

4 is likely Bouncing Bet

5 is no. 1

6 is horseradish. Yank it fast as it spreads rapidly with long taproots

7 maybe sweet williams

8 looks like more horseradish

9 is red clover

10 is hard to tell, greener and lighter clump in middle is in the dianthus family.

11 is likely dianthus/sweet williams

12 is hesperis/sweet rocket

13 I dunno...maybe soapwort

Half of the names you mentioned I never planted...I KNOW I didnt plant horseradish. Nor Bouncing Betty, burnet, or soapwort. Unless they have other names, that I may be more familiar with.

What I do somewhat remember planting in that area were, Amarathus ( various) Larkspur, Celosia ( I think), Bachelors Buttons...A lot of Marigold seeds that I just threw in the air and let land where ever they wanted.) Something else that starts with a C that I cant remember at the moment. And I believe something with a G, that I cant remember either. ( Great help I am huh? lol) Also planted Hollyhocks.

Im quite happy to hear the foxgloves returned, as well as the dianthus, and sweet william family.

Red clover?? Is that a flower or a weed?? If a flower...never planted it....if it weed...I shall pull.

Alkosa, yes, you got the name correctly on that plant. Microthrix also ID'd it with its old name (the one I'm used to seeing), Abromeitiella brevifolia. That was truly a mass of amazing specimen plants last year!! I must make a note to try to make the Huntington's annual July Show & sale this time. (Reggie, should we make a plan??!!??) I missed this post last year, & didn't see Jordi's fantastic Eulychnia castanea fa. spiralis blooming till now!! Wow! Have not seen one before!! Thanks to Moosetrackz & Lzrddr for posting all the pix from that 2012 show! What a treat!

Thanks so much, everyone! I also tend to think she's VERY cute, but maybe I'm biased? Ahhh, yes, our new "child..." I have posted pictures previously of our "first born," our Shih-tzu, Murphy. Well, now Murphy has a furry new companion, a Shih-tzu brother named Bode (pronounced BO-dee.) As if our lives weren't chaotic enough with a new baby, why not add a puppy to the mix? Here is Bode... (sorry, the lighting was a bit bad, it's hard to see his eyes...) Here are Bode and big brother Murphy playing... AND... my big news... MAKENNA IS CRAWLING!! I simply must share this video. I am in Baltimore County, and I feel your pain on the soil issue! We recently moved here, so we are just starting improving the soil. For now, I'm using a combination of containers, small raised beds, and one or two "in-ground" plants which are actually high planted in mounds on top of the topsoil. All are doing great despite the weather. In the mean time, I'm doing some top-down improvement of the area I will garden in next year. Top-down is key for our clay because digging down more than 4-5 inches only creates a basin of clay filled well drained soil...recipe for a sodden mess. I laid wet newspaper and cardboard over my whole plot, then piled on a few inches of compost and shredded leaves, and finally mulched the whole area heavily with straw and fine composted bark mulch. I did this late last fall and this year we have tons of earthworms and dramatically different soil texture to a depth of 6 inches or more. Even if you do nothing else, just covering that spot with something (burlap, wet cardboard, leaves, whatever) will get the worms there, and they are good at what they do! My husband teases that I have a veggie garden and a "dirt garden" and I work just as hard on both. So true! Good luck and hope you keep us updated on how it's going over there, neighbor.

The conditions in the home are very similar. The floors were the last thing we did during the remodel (when I said we were remodeling, I meant that we still have trim work and painting to do). We have lived in the home the entire time and everything has been kept climate controlled. We also monitor the humidity in our home very closely as my husband builds guitars and they require a specific level of humidity at all times. Anyhow, the floor was also acclimated prior to installation. We took all the planks out of the box 6 days before installation and rotated them every morning. I am just at a loss.....

Definately not Horseradish.

Other than that, all I'm sure of is Dandelions, lots and lots of Dandelions.

Yeah I know I need to get them out of there..The dandelions actually arent as bad as last year. And I got most out a few weeks ago. LOL

6 looks to me like burdock and maybe rudbeckia triloba on the right
Clover is pretty and a butterfly host and/or nectar plant. I WS'd some.

#4 looks like an invasive weed that I'm constantly pulling out of my garden. It spreads by underground runners. I'm not positive they're the same but it sure looks like it. #3 might be your batchelors button.

Ok I rememeber planting Rudbeckia in there.....the G one I couldnt remember before was Godetia. I also had some snow something or other that was planted that stayed green all year. I appreciate all the help you all are trying to give. I seem to never have the easy questions. LOL
