To stake or not to stake?
Comments (29)If that root is an adventitious root, it's a result of the tree being planted too deep by the grower back when he panted the tree out in his field. I don't see any possible way that it could have grown that large in just two years. I personally would not consider removing any more dirt from around the trunk, if it were my tree and I was working with it. I would remove the border (as ademink previously suggested in the other thread). There's nothing bad about an adventitious root, although it may have resulted for a condition like being planted too deeply. In that case, it's an attempt by the tree to adjust to its new conditions. After considerable adjustment has already been made, "fixing" the original conditions can be counterproductive, or worse. Dan also brought up a good point that many Acers adapt more easily to grade change than many other genera. Any tree can potentially have girdling roots and the presence of adventitious roots doesn't necessarily correlate with girdling roots. Trees without adventitious roots often have girdling roots and trees with adventitious roots don't necessarily have any higher chance of having girdling roots. Mackel, sorry, but I don't follow your lack-of-scientific-reasoning statement. I thought I presented my basis for thought as well as you did. Any any event, different opinions are fine and often helpful....See MoreAre there any good sources that have virus-free Amaryllis?
Comments (12)Expensive imported bulbs also have shown up with virus. Some in the US and some from EU and AUS. I would say a higher percentage of box kits may have virus.... But remember you are paying about $5 so the store pays just over $2. You get what you pay for? The more costly bulbs on line may be grown with more vigilance; however, even those growers who take great care are not immune. Again, no one will put in writing that they guarantee virus free bulbs. Comments (5)Thanks y'all - I've never heard of pole beans, but turns out they attract bees and hummingbirds - bonus! I don't know if I've seen these for sale as plants around here, but could I still directly sow them in the ground now? -- I need to change my profile I'm actually in Kentucky now Do you think they would get too tall for the trellis (it's only 5 ft)?...See MoreStake or not to stake (Naga)
Comments (4)I would also Stake or cage it. It's going to get taller and wider and when it begins to branch out, it will really test the strength of the branches. I usually cage them and supplement with stakes/dead tree branches, etc, to help keep the branches from breaking due to the weight....See Morejodik_gw
