Anyone use bulb tone when planting garlic?

I was wondering what folks use for fertilizer when they plant garlic in the fall. Someone mentioned they use the bulb tone - anyone here use it?

Sorry, I don't know about bulb tone.
I've been growing great, large garlic for 15 years now and only use well aged manure based compost. That and some rock phosphate if I feel like the area needs it. I harvested about 400 lbs. this year, much of it was quite large.
Why bother with buying fertilizer when manure is free for the taking?

I've used Espoma BulbTone but not for garlic. I used it on shallots and it worked pretty good. I do wish I had a contact for some well aged manure based compost but all the folks around here who have manure want top dollar for it now that they know gardeners without animals want it. I settle for Poultry Manure by Espoma when I buy manure. I grow my garlic in containers (EarthBox) so my experiences will be a bit different.

Ingredients in Bulb-Tone:
Derived from: Hydrolyzed Feather Meal, Pasteurized
Poultry Manure, Cocoa Meal, Bone Meal, Alfalfa Meal,
Greensand, Humates, Sulfate of Potash, and Sulfate of
Potash Magnesia.
*Contains 2.4% Slow Release Nitrogen.

I just got back from a store that sells Plant-tone and read on the bag that they recommend for potted plants to mix 1 part Plant-tone to 25 parts soil (about 2/3 cups per gallon of soil). That would suggest the manufacturer believes the product is suitable for containers but still says nothing about potential odors. Ingredients in Plant-tone include pasteurized poultry manure. I am in zone 6b here in PA. I plant several types of garlic, but mostly German Extra Hardy and Music. I always aim for October 15th no matter when I harvest the garlic. After curing it, my garlic lasts well into the new year. So I wouldn't worry about how the bulbs will hold up until planting time. They should be fine. yes there is a downside to planting early. the leaves shoot up and die in the winter taking away some of the strength of the bulb. I am 43 North and still waiting in new england to plant. I would advise waiting to the end of this month. you only want roots to grow under ground before everything freezes up. think tulips. you do not want green leaves to grow until spring. Anyway. my opinion is not scientific knowledge. It is more my opinion of what works. Purdue has a huge agriculture dept and I would go with what they say. Why not give them a phone call if you live close by. They also publish an agriculture bulletin for years. all online. I am sure they discuss garlic on their ag bulletin.

I fertilize both spring and fall. In the fall when preparing the planting bed with organic matter, dolomite, Milorganite and composted manure. Then I side dress in the spring twice with more Milorganite, first as early as the ground has thawed and my garlic has sprouted, and second later after it has warmed up enough and the plants are mulched. I like Milorganite, because it is pretty hard to burn your plants with it; so you can broadcast over the bed and not have to be so careful as you would with hotter commercial fertilizers.

dancinglemons, how many cloves per box, and what spacing? Also, is there anything different I should know compared to growing them in the ground, or growing thins other than alliums? I've been growing garlic and using self watering containers for years, but never garlic in containers. My raised beds are increasingly filled with redwood tree roots.

I grow in large raised beds. I use Dr. Earth brand 4-4-4 when planting and blood meal in late winter/early spring when the crop gets going again. I have in the past mulched with a combination of bagged chicken manure and composted ground bark product, but find the blood meal to be easier and better for my needs.

I also add organic amendments/nutrients when I feel like it--greensand, bone meal etc.
