I had a ruby meyer that didn't produce roots last year it bloomed in december I believe but waited until it was put outdoors and finally rooted in July heat last year, the bulb was the size off a shallot by the time it rooted. Try giving it some extra heat.

Another beauty, Paxfleur! I can see you're quite taken with the doubles! They are certainly special... I only wish they could be bred more easily...

Jodi, thank you! =) This is actually my first season with doubles because I didn't fancy them much but I chose change this season and I'm so glad I did. I'm not quite sure if breeding attempts will be successful yet but so far, Elvas, Double Record, and Red Peacock have all had pollen (although pollen count was very low). So I don't think breeding is impossible but definitely more difficult than single hybrids. =)

I started out collecting singles, myself... but when I saw the catalog photos for Lady Jane and Aphrodite, and others here began posting photos of their doubles, I just had to try a few! Like you, I'm so glad I did! They are so beautiful...

I'm thinking of adding Residence to my collection next year... it's the only cybister available in double form, I believe... the petals are red, and with the more exotic shape of the flowers, I think it'll be a winner! I hope Residence will at least produce pollen I can use on a single...

I still think that there's no such thing as an ugly hippeastrum, and I'm open to try just about any variety... I'm even beginning to collect other bulbs that are in the amarylli-whatever family! I have no idea how to spell the family of plants I'm talking about... but anyway... I just purchased/ordered 3 Rhodophilia Bifida bulbs, or Oxblood Lily... I can't wait to get them! I've also got my eye on some Spider Lilies and a few other really cool bulbs! My addiction is branching off into other directions! LOL!

It has such a Nymph-ish shape though, don't you think? If I didn't know it was Red Peacock, I'd say it is Red Nymph.

Awwww man, that would totally blow if this is another mislabel (after Green Goddess). What are the differences between Red Nymph and Red Peacock? Here is a picture I took today. =(

Beautiful bloom Paxfleur, I absolutely love the doubles, they are so showy. They demand your attention with those 'in you face' blooms.

I agree with you, they all have something that is unique about them. It sounds like I'm a bit like you, that we love the wierd and wonderful!

THe doubles have been hit the worst of my orders by freezing or rotting in the packages. Most of my "invalids" are Double Record, Red Peacock, White Peacock, Pasadena. My bargain Elvases (grocery store) are short little things with withered looking buds.

In my observation, if I have the right cultivars, Red Peacock has narrower petals and a lot of them, and Red Nymph has these kind of curvy, flat petals, like a red version of the well known Nymph. Can anyone help with his or her experience with these cultivars?

I still need to see my Red Nymph's flowers open to compare. What I have is a pic of my Red Peacock last season.

Maria, if Red Peacock is supposed to look like that, mine is definitely not Red Peacock. =( I thought these Peacock series were from Japan and were supposed to look the same/similar? Your Red Peacock looks nothing like Blossom Peacock? Are they suppose to look that different? I LOVE your Red Dragon Maria, Wahoo!!! Beautiful flower. =)

OMG Pax...Now I really have a very strong feeling that your Red Peacock IS Double Dragon. I remember that upward facing blooms of DD that I really did not appreciate. The white petal tips and the white stripe at the back of the petals is DD's characteristics too. The flower form and the petal texture is awesome though.

OMG Maria, if my mislabeled is a Double Dragon I would be elated! =) I was wanting to order Double Dragon from RC this season but decided to wait till next season but that would be sooooo awesome if mine was Double Dragon. The only difference I see is the texture in the petals. Your DD petals are really smooth and nice and mine is sorta like crinkled potato chips.....does that characteristic matter all that much? Thanks for all your help! =)

That's true Pax. Your RP has wavy petals. DD has "behaved" petals like Blossom peacock has....Lotus effect.

Let's wait for a pic of Red Nymph and compare. My Red Nymph still has a few weeks to go to open up its blooms.

Why I think it is not Double Dragon is because Double Dragon has smaller and smaller, thinner inner petals, as opposed to the Nymph series, where the inner petals are smaller, but still keeping the bulgy look.

Maria, was Red Peacock made in Japan by the same developers of Blossom Peacock? If so, how come they look soooo different? The reason why I thought my mislabel above was Red Peacock was because obviously someone was selling it as Red Peacock and the other reason was because I felt like my Red Peacock had similar petals to your Blossom Peacock minus the crinkled chips aspect. The picture of your Red Peacock from last season looks nothing like your Blossom Peacock which makes me question whether or not the Japanese were really dedicating enough time to these "Peacock" series.

I heard that there is a Salmon Peacock by Penning, that is definitely not a Japanese company, so the Red Peacock MIGHT not be from the Japanese either. I believe individual names are copyrighted for a certain amount of time, but I don't think they have trademarked 'the Peacock series.'

Here is my Red Nymph in bloom... I remember asking about the white tips, but don't recall any comments on that characteristic...

Now that Red Nymph Jodi looks more like Pax's Red Peacock with the "crinkly" petals.

Blossom Peacock, White Peacock, Red peacock and Flaming Peacock are Japanese hybrids. Salmon Peacock is a Dutch hybrid and a very pretty one too. Veronica Read has a pic of it in her book.

I agree Maria, I think that my "Red Peacock" is really a Red Nymph after seeing Jodi's picture. I'm going to have to write the supplier I got my Green Goddess and Red Peacock from to let her know that both of them have ended up mislabels.
