Planting out ws root crops?

I wsed turnips, raddish and such. I did the turnips for my friends elderly father. He really wanted turnips and says he never has any luck growing them by direct sowing. So I started some seeds for him in milk jugs. I guess they are actually spring sown 2 or 3 weeks ago. (I still call everything started in a jug WS!) They are growing very well. My problem is that it looks like I may have been a little overly generous with the seeds. Now I am wondering how to plant these out. Do you do HOS and maybe thin to one plant or seperate each seedling or something else? Now that they are growing nicely in the jugs he wants to take over their care but I don't know what to tell him to do with them!
