Hello. We recently built an addition on our house and just completed a deck. We had three pine trees that we had originally hoped to salvage but they keep tearing the shingles off the roof of the new addition and the mess these trees made on the deck were terrible, plus, they weren't faring so well. SO, the trees came down yesterday.

What tree would you recommend to replace these pines? I am in Northern Virginia (zone 6). The area faces North and receives shade for most of the day with a little bit of afternoon sun. I would like something that will not grow too tall or need constant pruning to keep it from growing out over the deck. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
