Hemlocks and Roses

Hi Everyone

We have a customer who has a dying hedge of hemlocks in northeastern Georgia. It most likely is the Eastern Hemlock.

She wants to simply cut them back and plant rambling roses to cover them up and become the new hedge. She is asking me if hemlocks leave any toxicity in the soil that would harm roses.

Anyone know?
