I have Blue False Indigo collected last year and Centaurea montana fresh off the plant. I would love your 'Crimson Scabiosa' and 'Pink Yarrow'. Looks like you're low on those trades so if you're out then 'Red Multi-stemmed Daisy' would be nice, otherwise don't worry about it. Just email your address and I'll drop my seeds in the mail asap. Hi Thank you for all your posts. I have not posted a photo this way before I hope it works. I planted it about 4 weeks ago well after frost. It was in bloom when I planted it. When the flowers died I researched what I should do and I read that if I did not want volunteers that i should clip it back to the next growth. So thats what I did. I also figured it would do better if its energy wasn't going to producing seeds. Well thats what I read anyway. I watered it well at first we have had a lot of rain this year so I slowed the manual watering alittle. I believe I am in zone 4 and the nursey around the corner from my house have them in their gardens so I believe they are fine in the area. It looks worse today. I haven't watered it at all as I thought it was being overwater. I also have no idea what a vole is?? Here is a link that might be useful: False Indigo Photos

What follows is from the Kentucky extension service. These moths devastated my two baptisias last year - I cut them to the ground and to my surprise they have come back just fine. Genista caterpillar larvae (nocturnal moths) lay their eggs in spring; they hatch begin feeding on the tender new baptisia plant growth. The larvae work fast and can completely strip the foliage of a mature baptisia in a few days...fortunately, this shouldnâÂÂt cause permanent damage to the plant. The larvae have 5 stages before they pupate for overwintering. Since the moths are quite prolific, they can actually lay several generations of eggs each year, so youâÂÂll need to monitor your baptisias all summer. When the caterpillars are young they can be easily killed with organic BT (Bacillus huringensis) products.

I cut my Purple Smoke Baptisia back to about 15 inches immediately after blooming this year. It has regrown to almost its original height and is perfect looking, with no flopping at all. Mine has always had a tendancy to splay open and flop somewhat after blooming, so I have been cutting it back some each year, but I never gave it such a drastic haircut until this year. Worked fine. Nice, bushy, upright & about the prettiest cleanest foliage of anything this time of year. Took surprisingly little time to regenerate itself, but as I said before, did not get quite as tall as it was originally. The problem that I had in previous years was that with a minor haircut it got even taller with regrowth than it was originally, somewhat out of proportion with other plantings in the bed, & still splayed open more than I liked. My baptisia is planted in amended rich fertile clay soil in an area that is somewhat high in my yard & on the dryish side (for my wettish garden). In less rich soil it might not need such drastic cutback treatment, but it was this or dig it out. BTW, it looked a lot like asparagus spears sticking out of the ground after I gave it the hard cutback, kind of ugly & scary looking, but I'm very happy with it now. Now it is sort of the perfect late summer/early fall plant that also managed to look good in spring & early summer - a very long season!
