Mid-Atlantic gardeners -your experience with these roses pls?

I am curious what your experience has been with the following. Are they beautiful or do they blackspot (how much and does it kill them), do they ball, nasty blooms etc etc.

I've grown Oklahoma 4 times. It definitely will blackspot without spraying here. It is very fragrant and beautiful.

Also grow Georgetown Tea. It is better than average for blackspot resistance for a tea rose (loses less than half its leaves), though mine hasn't grown more than 2' tall in 4 years and seems a little runty.

Have similar comments to Lori about Oklahoma and GT. I am spraying my GT now (exception is this year and everything is a mess)and it became really big bush. As soon as you stop spraying it looses 50-70% its leaves. William R Smith is similar in this respect. Also 50-70% defoliation and wants to be really big, if sprayed. Beautiful flowers. Baronne Henriette de Snoy was not hardy for me. I lost it during its second winter, which wasn't even too cold. This one also balled and got more BS then GT and WRS.
I don't have percsonal experience with Cl Devoniensis, but my friend grows it here. It does get significant BS.

I do not want to see another storm like the last storm we had, wow, was that brutal or what? The winds were so fierce, I was outside in the mess trying to tie down my 7 ft. Neptune that was whipping wildly in the wind all day, I lost many nice long stems with buds and I was so depressed for 2 days. But now I have many buds showing color, one bloom opened on Royal Amethyst, one opened on a few seedlings I have and also Zep Droudrin is blooming its crazy tail off. Some of the buds have been showing color for 3 days now, and I am expecting them to open real soon, though I am starting to worry about......oh I hate to say it! I'm closing my eyes as I type it! THRIPS!! Oh please say it ain't so.....I just have an awful feeling those varmits are in those buds partying and raising h&!!. LOL! I really do not want to have to spray for them......arghhh! Is anyone else having trouble with thrips this early?

Mid-atlantic area usually have a very high BS pressure. It is humid and temperatures are just right for BS spores germination on the surface of wet leaves. By my observations and talking with rose friends in this area, DC actually by some reason is better then MD, north VA or PA in terms of BS pressure. It is close to south VA in this aspect. Probably it is because DC being a city is at least half a zone (probably more) warmer then MD. BS spores will not germinate when temps are higher then certain point. I don't remember exactly the number, but somewhere around 75-78 deg, if I remember correctly. Leaves are almost always wet at night, so regions that have high humidity and 65-75 deg at night have the highest BS pressure. This is the reason why warmer places (TX, LA, etc)have worst time with BS in spring and fall. Southern Summers are just to hot for BS spores. Can I see roses in Kentucky in Mid Oct.?

We were in that part of the country late October several years ago. The state cemetery in Frankfurt (the Capital) still had roses blooming including Old Blush. North of the Ohio River, in the town of Madisonville Indiana, a historic home called Lanier House is down on the river and has a historic rose garden and a really lovely setting. In Lexington KY, if you want to see thousands of different roses, the Arboreteum across the street from the football stadium has a huge collection of all the classes of roses that will grow there. There collection of species roses is neat and the big roses are worth visiting. This could be a neat circle drive from Louisville up to Frankfurt, to Madisonville, to Lexington and then fast drive back to Louisville.

We have been going to Indian Beach/Salter Path/Emerald Isle, North Carolina for 20+ years. This area is part of the Outer Banks and is very family friendly, very low-key. Plenty of family restaurants and just the right amount of beach t-shirt places (not many). For the charming little town aspect and good restaurants, you drive across the bridge to Beaufort, NC (that's right, two towns in the Carolinas of the same name - but pronounced differently). Ocean water in the summer is in the 84 to 86 range. Water is generally never too strong or overpowering, unless a storm is coming in/just passed. The people are just lovely. Renting a single family home that will comfortably (everyone gets a bed, swimming pool attached to the house) accommodate a dozen people will probably run you $3,000 to $6,500 for the week. Three-bedroom condos with light housekeeping service will run $1,500 to $2,100 for the week. You might also want to look at Bald Head Island or Wilmington NC. Bald Head is very nice - no cars allowed - you have to take a private ferry to get there.

I bought OK about 9/1 from a local nursery. I'm looking out for some good dark reds and I figured a rose that still looks good after spending all spring and summer in a pot was worth a try. I've sprayed 2 or 3 times since then and it still looks good, didn't spray at all in Oct. The owner of the nursery said he sprayed very week or 2. I don't care about sent.

Although it's too soon to tell, all in all, it's looking pretty good; healthy, has most of it's leaves, and a couple of blooms. I think it's a keeper.

Many thanks! Souvenir Claudius denoyel doesn't sound like it is very well known. Wondering if there is a reason e .g. Not hardy.

Same experience as Lori and Olga with Oklahoma, I spray and it wasn't worth the time. Also don't recommend Cl. Oklahoma, clmibing sports of hybrid teas are usually not as vigorous as the non-climbing varieties.
