We've already seen a robin ... a bit early for that, too. Haven't noticed the bulbs popping up yet, though.

I've got daffodils coming up here, but I think they did that last year, too.

A few things:
1. I have grown blackeyed susans for years. They come up on their own; I cull and keep the ones I want and reposition them. This year a mystery plant came up. Beautiful round leaves, almost like an Echinacea, but rounder. This summer it bloomed when all other blackeyed susans were gone for the season. It was a low growing blackeyed susan. I cut the stem after flowering. Now more stems and more long lasting blooms now in December. I also found three others of these plants around my garden. My other Blackeyed Susans get attacked by bugs; not these.
Other things are an excellent marigold that just came up and is blooming (unlike any I ever had); a thristle that I know is a weed but the plant is beautiful.
I occasionally get mystery plants (mutations, I guess) that are always fun to watch.

Well, the daff I originally posted about has a bud on it and is now being joined by 3 other plants. The other night we were at Bellingrath and I noticed some of their azaleas blooming. Not the kind that's SUPPOSED to rebloom but the tiny little ones you usually only see in spring! And there's a patch of green, green clover blooming at work...sure looks funny out amongst all the brown of the dormant grass :)

Now one of my daylilies is coming up. I'm all for skipping winter, but somehow I think these plants are wrong.

I was working in Dadeville today and saw what looked like paperwhites blooming in somebody's yard - like tiny white narcissus with green foliage. I was at a distance so I can't be sure exactly what they were. I'll try to get closer tomorrow.

In another part of town I saw yellowbells blooming. What's next? Pear trees? Is it time to plant tomatoes? LOL

Sundog, if I knew our moderate temps would continue I'd sure be trying for early toms :)

narcissus seen blooming in loachapoka last week. rows of ornamental prunus (plum, peach or apricot) were practically in full bloom in columbus, ga. this weekend. pretty sure the cold temps took care of those last night.
i have some type of nicotiana with flowers still showing before today.

I saw a redbud blooming yesterday. ?!

I'm trying hard to enjoy the things that are choosing to bloom now but I can't help but mourn a little for the spring we won't have...sigh.

The Long Range Weather Forecasters annual Fourth of July cookout has been postponed because of rain.

Maybe we'll get lucky and this unusual weather will continue. I'm not going to miss anything if we have no frozen precipitation this Winter. I'll even be willing to give up one nice Spring.

My fruit trees are budding -- one of which still has leaves from last fall! -- and the forsythia are starting to bloom everywhere. The tulips are coming up now to join the other bulbs.

My animals are shedding in earnest now, so they think spring is around the corner, too.

If we're going to get nasty weather, I hope it's now before the pants take too much damage. And as much as I like the mild weather, so do many of the bugs that I'll spend the summer battling.

My California poppies are blooming.

Freezing, then 65, then freezing, then 70, then freezing, then 60, and on and on. The plants and animals (and me) are confused.

I'm working in Athens, AL this week and I was outside today without a jacket, but tonight the low will be around 30 and tomorrow the high is only 45! Back up to 70 by Sunday.

The African iris at work is already blooming!

You mean like quince blooming in Gadsden in January? Paperwhite blooming in December? Lots of daffodils coming up with buds? I had a knee replacement in mid-December, so those are just the things I can see without walking through the garden.

Hubby saw a blue bird moving nesting material into the birdhouse over the weekend. Seems way too early to me. This weather really makes me anxious to get the garden ready for planting.

Catbird, that's precisely what I'm talking about! The flowering plums and Japanese magnolias both seem to be 'on time' this year. And what beautiful specimens they are. Maybe our lack of cold has given them the ability to bloom so fully?
