I presume this is not a first year bush? Is it hardy? Require a lot of spring pruning to remove dieback? Have you trained it to grow into the lattice or do you tie the canes to it? If it requires a lot of spring pruning to remove dieback, wait until spring to replace or support the lattice. If not, cut it back now if intertwined in the lattice and fix or replace the lattice with some thing much stronger as this bush will keep growing larger and heavier. I believe it still has time to recover in your area. Do you know the name of the variety? Many would like to have such a vigorous climber especially if it repeats as you imply. The only thing I have with a similar growth but not bloom habit is Seven Sisters. It flowers in large clusters of deep dark pink blooms, but only once a year in mid to late June and only on 2nd year wood. The blooms last for weeks. It's turning into the climber that ate the NE corner of my back yard. Luckily it's growing on my sturdy chainlink fence and if it pulls that down I'll have to move to escape it.

I don't think hostas would be any cheaper- the clumps grow fairly slowly (most of them only make one new 'eye' a year, it can take a decade for a clump to double in size) wheras the ground cover roses tend to root along the way, and the next spring, you can go in with a clipper and heavy gloves, and move those 'new' plants to bare areas. I think the roses would look wonderful...mowing slopes is a right pain in the butt, isn't it? I'm not sure what color 'seafoam' is, but you might have some luck with daylillies interplanted with the roses- the 'free' ones are orange (around here we call em 'ditch lillies' because that's where we dug them from) but they come in yellows and bronze and well into the pinks. everyone else is gonna growl at me, but if you're really in a pinch, and looking for something to stop the erosion in its tracks, GoutWeed might be the way to go- though you can call it 'false dead nettles' since 'gout' is just an ugly word. it's a fast-growing groundcover with green and white striped leaves and a cascading habit and rather inconspicuous yellow flowers right about now. the roses would have no problem cohabitating with it (actually, that's where I first met the plant myself) and it spreads like wildfire...which makes it good for an 'impossible' place, and an invasive monster everywhere else.

I have 6 trailing roses (cant remember the name right now) planted this spring along the top of a retaining wall. They have little tiny red blooms in clusters. Our property slopes to the retaining wall and has ?grass in the area directly above the wall. Anyway, we hired a lawn service to help get rid of the weeds and get the lawn ready for fall seeding and what have you. He was out about 3 weeks ago and sprayed our lawn. I noticed 2 days ago the rose bushes beginning to turn brown. I also have noticed some of the daylillies turning brown like they had been sprayed with roundup. I know that didnt happen. My husband says the lawn guy put out lime, will this cause my roses to brown and die? I spent a lot on these roses and they were just beginning to take off and spread down the wall. I did put Mills Magic Mix to them about the same time but I didnt put it to the daylillies. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
