Some rose pictures

I was looking through a blog of Lithuanian rose nursery (which sell OGRs among other things) and found some really amazing pics in there. It is mostly in Lithuanian, but comments are sparse and breed names are in English anyways.

OGR in Lithuania (z3-5) - a lot of mature rose pics

Frosted rose pics - very pretty

Kordes rose fields - loved the planting ideas in the town pics at the bottom

DA roses in UK - some pics of mature shrubs

Some lovely bouquets

This was really enjoyable. My favorite was the first entry which had absolutely gorgeous, huge rose bushes. It was interesting to get a glimpse into a country that I for one know little about. They certainly know how to grow roses. I can't grow most of these but these cool-climate once-bloomers are just enchanting.

Those are breathtaking, aren't they? :)

Looking at pics, it is mostly village shots, so I think most of the roses survived there without much of pampering, really amazing, especially considering the climate (with winters as low as -30C). Too bad the alba in a pic above is unidentified, I NEED that one. :D

That Japanese Iris is beautiful. I've tried them but we must be too cold here. I do save my begonias though this year I lost several. You shouldn't have any trouble saving them. If they're in a pot, just let the pot dry out and stick it in the basement for the winter and bring it out in the spring. If they're in the ground, break the top off and put the corm in a paper bag dry and leave it for the winter. Start it in early spring. The room I've stored things like this was exceptionally cold this year because I lost half the begonias and half the dahlias (which I save the same way). As far as the roses go I don't do anything to them except give them some Miricle Grow if I think of it. I've switched from the tea roses (for the most part) to the shrub, hardy ones. There's a great Canadian line I like. I'll take more pictures soon. (look at my home page for pictures of last year). I noticed there are aphids on them now but it's so hot here in the summer that black spot isn't that much of a problem. They are blooming about two or three weeks early for some reason.

Carol, I used to live in a house with about 50 rose bushes. It had about 25 when we moved in, and I planted the rest. We once had a man stop by to ask for a clipping of one of the bushes, saying it was grown from a rose given by his Argentinian father to his mother when he proposed! I tried to plant more drought tolerant flowers in this house, but there's nothing like roses for sheer beauty and long term flowering, is there? Thanks for the responses, everyone, that was very helpful! I'm still not convinced about the red and yellow one. The coloring is like glowing embers, it really looks like the rose is lit from within. Anyone else think of a scarlet rose with a flame yellow heart, please let me know! KC

chloris, maybe? Gorgeous, elemire, just lovely....although looking at Summer song - Yikes!! - I have this ordered - its a good job it is going next to Falstaff, and Wild Edric as it is clearly not a genteel delicacy of taste and subtlety (but neither am I)

yeah campanula, thought you might want to see Summer Song, it seems to be a decent bush. ;) But soooo pretty. :D

Is cholis arching habit? From HMF pics he looks rather upright? Color is prettiness though.

Thank you so much for the pictures. I will be looking at them over and over again. I so wish I could go to a Lithuanian rosy party. Those arrangements were really beautiful. It would be great to live in a place where everyone had roses lining their streets and homes. So beautiful. Anyone who doesn't see these pictures is really missing out.

Wow, I would love to be able to fly over right now and see the Cord rosary's exhibition! Such lovely roses, and everything is so green, even when their is frost! Thanks Elemire for sharing!

lol Kate, I am not that fond of munching rose petals as well, but I know that they are used sometimes in the desserts, usually with a lot of sugar frosting though. :D
