my baby girl is a recused ferel cat, and in the rescue process she had 4 litters..she had one when she was dumped off, another litter outside before i could get them inside..managed to catch and give the kittens away but not mama, then she had another litter and got hit by a car or shot or something..and we managed to get her inside to have her litter and nurse her wounds..got her well, but couldn't get her to the vet..she was preggie again and we swore she would get to the vet before it happened again..so when one of her kittens we kept died of some poison or something, we managed to get her and her son Mitzi to the vet and get them shots..now she is the most affectionate little girl you ever could love on. mama Greystoke Mitzi as a kitten

The last couple years I've been scrambling to feed GSTs because the leaves were falling and I still had cats. A few starved last year. This year, they were weeks earlier so not even close to a problem. Weird. Nature dictated a third brood of lunas here. Second time I've ever had a third brood. Cats from my first 3rd brood mama should make it. Cats from the second 3rd brood mama will need me to refrigerate some leaves. Just no way they are going to finish while the leaves are still on the trees. Cannot imagine the ones in nature making it because their development has to be going much slower with the night temps dipping into the 40s and daytime highs in the 60s. I have two giant leopard moth cats (these overwinter as cats). One still eats but the other has already entered winter diapause mode. Wanders occasionally and never eats. I have a few cecropias, one imperial, and one polyphemus outside in sleeves. They seem to be having a contest to see who pupates last. I've never had an imperial this late in the year before.

Thank you all for your great advice! Although deer tend to be a problem with some landscaping, I've never had an issue with them helping themselves to our crabapple tree - it saves us a bunch of cleanup in the fall. I'm definitely going to try some butter, jelly etc., but I may limit the taste-testing to family first....lol. Carol, I feel your pain...we've had a woodchuck wipe out our tomatoes for the second year in a row.... Linda lou, Never even thought about juice...I'll have to give that a try too! Jim, we bought the property eight years ago and the tree was already there. We haven't used any pesticides, but honestly I never even thought about it until you mentioned it - thanks for the heads up. No pesticides near the crabapple tree.... As kids we used to toss crabapples the same way we would throw a snowball.... maximum impact = maximum humiliation. Geez, did that apple pack a wallop....I'd rather take a hit from a snowball any day... Thanks again for your help. Lisa
