Wonderful World of Camellias

Thursday, March 8, 6:30PM Â 8:00PM

Anniston Natural Museum of History,

Museum Auditorium

Garden and plant enthusiasts, plan to usher in the springtime as we explore the "Wonderful World of Camellias". Our own local expert, Hayes Jackson, Calhoun County Urban Extension Agent, will share his expertise about the many varieties of camellias. Hayes is an avid grower of over 200 varieties of camellias and will tell us how to plant, when to plant, and where to plant, in addition to information about new species and hybrids available. The Camellia, at one time, was a status symbol of the South and is still the official Alabama state flower. With renewed interest and better methods of propagation, the Camellia is accessible to the most novice gardener. Camellias can bloom nearly year round, in many different colors, and are sometimes called the "Rose of Winter." Light refreshments will begin at 6:30 PM, with the program starting at 7:00 PM. This program is a joint effort of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System and the Anniston Museum of Natural History. Admission is free to the public.
