Our "John Cabot" climber
Comments (13)You guys are too kind. Thank you. We are very proud of this plant. There are a few wood trellises but they don't do much with respect to support any more. In fact a few years ago, while it was in full bloom we experienced a heavy rainstorm and under all that weight of flower and water this climber fell off the wall! I was mortified. So that fall I secured to the brick a few lengths of wire running horizontally. If I didn't trim the top a few times during the growing season it would reach the roof! ....See MoreOH-OH John Cabot lost to RRD
Comments (18)When I saw the affected growth on one cane, I quickly noticed it on many other canes. All affected canes were similar in appearance to that pictured in the photo on the "Bizarre rose growth" post. It was only on old growth or on new growth coming from old growth canes. No new growth coming directly from the ground was affected. In case you haven't tracked this outbreak, I'm in Jasper County, Indiana. That's located in the NW corner right under Lake and Porter counties. I'm 12 miles east of I-65 or 19 miles due south of Valparaiso, off Indiana route 49. Picture is of the bush during the spring flush. The flag pole is 30 feet tall and the bush went about one third up the pole. John Cabot is no more....See MoreUnplanted Winter "Storage" - John Cabot ???
Comments (3)An unheated garage is good if it's insulated. If not it's just OK and still iffy. If you are putting it in the garage I would do as Mad suggests and put it in a bigger pot. That little pot will afford it NO insulation at all. You need some soil around the roots if there is any hope of protecting it. Keep it off the cement and water it some once a month all winter. Or you can just dig a hole in your cleaned out veggie garden and sink the pot for the winter. If you do that please put a stick or something sticking up to mark where you buried it. I, unfortunately, learned that the hard way when I sliced one of my seedlings in half trying to dig it out in the spring because I couldn't find it, lol!...See MoreNeed suggestion for climber
Comments (23)Great idea to me!! I LOVE EDENS!! How about florentina or jasmina? Or Laguna? On multi flora?? I heard multi flora is great stock for cold weather. I'm in fla n don't honestly kno for sure but heard so. Also, I have 4 red edens aka Eric taberly. I LOVE ALL MY EDENS! Pink -white - the regular Eden & my reds! To die for blooms!! These two are only mo & half to 2 mo old I just bought these from David Austin. I wanted them on Dr.Huey the other 2 I have are under a year also (but much older &on their own roots & much slower growers!) These 2 here in pots seem to be growing much faster. The bush shots aren't much to look at so far bc they're new. I'm preparing the beds for them now :)...See More- 14 years ago
