Chilli thrips

I just read the article about growing roses in Florida that was linked by Henry K.. It mentions chilli thrips as a pest for Florida roses. The link below says they have been detected only in the Houston area so far, but other links I read from a seach on this forum show them in several counties. I'm in San Antonio and hadn't heard about them until now.

I'm expecting four roses on Fortunianna root stock to arrive from Florida this week. I generally don't use insecticides, but I'm wondering if I should treat the plants and the soil of these roses as soon as I open the box to eliminate any thrips that might be coming in with them. If so what product would you recommend be used and how?

Also should the roses be kept in quarantine and if so how could that best be accomplished and for how long?

Perhaps treating these roses just in case they arrive infected could forestall the arrival of thrips in my yard for a few years anyway.

Many thanks for any advice on this subject you could offer!
