I am so pleased for your Enigma! Happy gardening days. I got mine two springs ago. It bloomed well on one branch this year, but not overall. It appears to be concentrating on putting on growth first. I expect that is a major miracle and blessing that it is at least thriving in this drought and heat. Can't wait for it to bloom so much that I will be able to enjoy it's heady clove fragrance. Mmmmm... I planted mine in front of Climbing Red Blaze. They are mingling happily together. D. Enigma's dainty foliage is covering Blaze's naked canes and Blaze is providing sturdy canes for Enigma to climb. Their color combination and different bloom sizes should make for a pretty bouquet next year. Maybe next year you and I will have something spectacular to share on here. :) ~Annie

I have Darlow's Enigma. I love it - does great even in partial shade. Also requires no real mulch or anything in winter though it does die all the way back. It is vigerous enough that it will cover my 8 ft obelisk for it every year though! I believe I've posted a pic somewhere on GW already too...give it a search! -Marie

Beautiful pictures! I'm thinking of adding Darlow's Enigma to my Ashdown order. Do you think he'd be a climber for me here in zone 6? I have Ex von Schubert - isn't he stunning? Does yours rebloom for you? Mine has a lovely spring flush and sometimes a few blooms in fall, but nothing much in between. I sure would love it if I could coax him into blooming more. He's so beautiful, I love him anyway, but if you did have any luck with rebloom, hints on how would be most appreciated! Anyway, thanks for posting!
