Pickering is open for fall orders!

I called yesterday to see when they would start taking orders for fall and was told by the end of the week. Checked tonight and the new catalog was up on their website. So I ordered ASAP. Didn't want to miss out on anything that sold out early last year. I've ordered:

Suzanne, spinosissima, light pink

Chloris, alba, light pink

Karl Forster, spinosissima, white

Fruhlingsgold, spinosissima, golden yellow

Golden Wings, shrub, light yellow

Munstead Wood, austin, red

Schneezwerg, rugosa, white

Furstin von Pless, rugosa, white

Wasagaming, rugosa, pink

Nevada, hybrid moyesii, white

Cantabrigiensis, species cross, light yellow

Most of these have a tendency to get BIG and have an untamed and primitive look that fits in with my garden's many California native plants. Providing cover and food for wildlife is also a factor. I also like the idea of having genetic diversity in my roses so that if something nasty comes along it may not find ALL my roses to its liking.

Yeah! I can't wait to get home from work tonight and look through the site! I have some credit from two failed roses last spring :)

Hey--thanks for the heads up. I've been checking every day since Sept 1, but hadn't checked yet today. My order is all ready to go:

Munstead Woods also (shrub)
Scepter'd Isle (shrub)
Berolina (HT)

Wish I had more room in my garden. These are actually replacements, though I changed the roses from the previous occupants. I also have a rose I need to pick up at David Austin and another one at Chamblees--both replacements also.

I always love to hear what others are ordering! I also purchased Soupert et Notting (by suggesstion of another poster) & Juno from Pickering, but received mine back in November. Those red thorns on R. Primula are stunning!!! Someone else was recently talking about that rose and R. Moyesii, I ended up with R. Moyesii (the hips are very unique). You'll have to post pictures once they bloom this spring!

Hi Ingrid Normally Pickering opening up for the fall is the start of the new year for me for rose wandering and order setting and it use to be a source of excitement on this site when they opened. However over the last three years they have shrunk their org offerings, and well there unfortunately is nothing new or a regain in the inventory some I wanted again that they use to carry ... Gabrielle Noyelle being one (a 30's peach colored moss) and the portlands Arthur Sansal, Miranda and Louis Gimard (another moss). The chinas have also continued to shrink from a high of 13 down to 9 ... but as the man said once in a memo "no demand no incentive to carry the cost".

Rose Forum members have said that Pickering grafts their roses onto R. multiflora stock. However I vaguely remember someone saying that they plan to switch some/all to own root. Am I confusing this with Austin or is this true of Pickering as well? Cath

Yep, I got it too. And I also got an email from my credit card that they charged my account for my order, that is apparently not going to be sent until next year, on 11/22. What's up with that, Pickering?

Looks like Munstead Woods is flying off the shelves. Anybody contemplating adding this rose, should act quickly. I wanted to get it last year and waited a bit too long and missed out. It was sold out before the end of September last year.

Reminder to anyone else checking the Pickering site.

If you recently browsed the Pickering pages, when you go back there today, now that they have new listings, make sure you click on REFRESH on your computer--or you will just get the same old page you were looking at before.

I didn't see anything I needed. But boy, just since yesterday there's a lot sold out already! Geez. Are we in a rose ordering frenzy or what?

I'm going to have to figure out my exact list from them pretty soon. I hate having to choose, lol!

Ha, Tessies, what a GREAT selection. Many of my absolute top favourites. You should be seeing a significasnt change in your landscape over the next few years.

Zaphod, well done - you really will enjoy R.primula - even in winter, the red filigree branches are delightful and there are few lovelier harbingers of spring.

I finally got around to sitting down and going through the site tonight. You can tell that they cut back on their variaties quite a bit from previous years. Last year I bought quite a few that they were discontinuing, and thankful that I did :) Also, as Beth mentioned, a good amount are already sold out.
