There's a miniature called Penny Lane. Is that what you got?

No, definitely not! I got the climber Pennylane. It was listed as a climber on the vendor site, not a miniature. It's supposed to be a Harkness Rose which is a normal hybrid tea. EEEEEKS! the mention of a miniature Pennylane is freaking me out. I love minis but not! for a climber!!!!

Well, they have different colored flowers and everything. You could look them up on HMF. There's no picture of the mini. It's pink and looks to be a very small (nonclimbing) bush as well.

You won't find it unless you spell it Penny Lane (two words).

Don't freak out. If you're sure it's not the Penny Lane you ordered, contact the vendor for a replacement and figure out if what you got can live somewhere else.

Young roses will sometimes have blooms that don't look right, and you may think you have the wrong rose. It will be able to support the bigger blooms as it matures. So I would wait.

Another factor in the summer, is the heat. Some of my roses will produce smaller, or distorted, or fewer petals.

There is no reason to worry, just wait it out. As long as the color is somewhere in the ballpark it's probably the right rose.

Barb42 and this morning is telling me not to panic... LOL! I should have taken photos when they started to open. I swear, those things were 1/2 a dime in size at the time, so I rushed out to take photos the following morning and thought hmmm, at least they look a little better, maybe 2/3rds the size of my baby band Special Occasion once they start to fully open, but not 1/10 size like they originally were.

Here are 2 photos. That bud-flower on the far upper left is actually much larger than what I originally saw, I promise I am not exaggerating.

Here is another photo of how every single of those buds originally started out as. You see they all started to open at this tiny miniscule size. My young climber is huge but its beginning flowers so tiny hence the panic.

I actually had to highlight the flower because you can barely see it because it's so tiny.

Looks like a lovely healthy rose there, and looks close enough to the mature pics to not panic. : )

You really can't compare different varieties of roses, just like people, (some teenagers reach puberty in 5th- 6th grade while others don't sprout till they're in 10th).

I remember I planted Eglantyne one August and it's only bloom that year was barely semi- double. I was sure I had the wrong rose, thought maybe Sceptre d Isle, but the next June it bloomed just like it should as Eglantyne.

Gardening just teaches us patience, I think.

Thanks Barb422! I will definitely relax and chill! And thanks for the words of patience.... Eglantine, I would have loved to seen photos of it. We had a photo tribute earlier to Mike Lowe who had bred Eglantine but just passed away very recently.

Great news also is that I have a new rosie friend from Australia. She's grown a grafted Penny Lane before and said it was such a beautiful rose. That Penny Lane is gone, but she now has in her new garden/new home a young cutting that has grown up to be approximately the same size as mine. It hasn't bloomed yet so we will be comparing our young own-root Penny Lanes together. Her roses are so amazing, like 500 of them! and most are roses that I've never even heard of before. Just amazing, amazing her photos. I've never seen such gigantic rose-abundant bushes save in those botanical gardens and in some of HoovB's gardens.
