I got a handful of perennials a couple yrs ago from them. None of them survived. I had gotten some weird vining plant and some echinaceas if I remember correctly. They offered them by phone at a really good price. I never bothered to let them know they didn't make it. But I guess I should've! But, just because my plants didn't make doesn't mean none of them will. It could've been something I did. But as I recollect, the plants were pretty tiny when they arrived.

Yes, I have. I find that they are about the same quality as say, from Parks, which are good too. In fact, in case you hadn't heard, Parks now owns J&P, so the differences now will be in name only.

Many, many, many years ago when I was in high school, I grew roses and chrysanthemums from J&P. So, when I we moved back to TN, I wanted to grow mums again (the roses never left my gardens, but climate limited mums). And I started getting J&P catalogs. And there were no mums, at least not with the diversity I used to grow.
So, I called them. And got phone people who never knew they had sold mums, much less many mums.
And the mums they used to sell were really great big productive plants. Not much fuss, great end of summer masses of color.
Ah, yes, I remember them well.

The last few years, I have ordered several tree peonies from Jackson and Perkins. They all have been quality plants at a reasonable price.

I have had great success with J&P Perennials and Roses.

I've never ordered as I think their prices are too high for what you get. Other good mail order nurseries supply similar quality plants for less.

Parks does not own J&P.
The financial holding company that owns Parks also owns J&P.
Operations could be combined or shared, such as Parks and Wayside, like many businesses owned by holding companies do, or they could remain as they are with little or no intermingling.
I would think they will combine some things to avoid duplication and save money which is usually why a holding company makes these purchases.

In the past I have bought daylillies and dahlias from them. The daylillies did so well I have over 100 of them now. The dahlias were wonderful, I loved them. However, I foolishly dug them up and kept them in the basement and they dried up.

I order my perennials from Bluestone- less expensive. Some varieties may not be available from them. Over on the perennials forum you could get some feedback about coneflowers, etc. My local Lowe's actually had Harvest Moon coneflower recently and I bought several (Good thing I got them then because they started to kill them right away by not watering- it was so sad to see what happened to those plants!). Wayside, Parks and J&P are on the expensive side, so I would only order from them if I couldn't find it at Bluestone. Many exotic items are sold by Plant Delights in Raleigh and I have been to a couple of their open houses (planning to go again this Sept.). Brandy

Buford, you probably know now you can leave dahlias in the ground where you and I live. On the site where I buy my dahlias, it says they like 8 hours of sun. Well, one of mine is drooping every day this year!

I have ordered from Bluestone before. Just wondering about the J&P things. I use lots of Lavander in my roses and they have some ones I haven't seen but I would never try those now in the land of hard as a rock soil with no rain in sight.

I have to agree about the J & P catalog being a bit expensive. Lowes is a good place to get J & P if you catch them before they let them dry out like brandyray said. My first rose was a J & P hedgerose for $6.00, the next year, another for $2.00 and last year a William Baffin for $6.49. I wonder if it really matters where you get a J & P as long as it is the real thing?

I ordered three tree peonies from them last fall and they were top notch. It was a set of three different varieties but they sent a duplicate of the white one instead of the pink as part of the set. I phoned them and they said I could keep the extra white and they would send the pink (which they did in a reasonable amt. of time).

I haven't ordered perennials from them, but they do seem to stand by their plants and have good customer service.

I, too have had a good experience with them. When they sent me the wrong color roses (12) they replaced them with 12 of the desired color while asking me to donate the first lot of the wrong color. Their reps are great.

Beside all my Austin roses, I have bought begonias ( flowers are 8" across) and cornflowers from them. Cornflower, suppose to bloom next year. But begonias are wonderful. Hopefully, I wont kill them this year.

I have bought bareroot JP roses from Costco this year. All 16 died. Then I turn around and bought them again fromJp website. What a difference. Garden centers do not take good care of them and many of the plants get damaged by them before you buy them. If you buy directly from them when they are on sale, there is no difference in price except you get a better quality plant.
