Worse than Japanese Beetles!

This is a bit off topic for some, and I do apologize, but, I did want to share this.

This past week I noticed that some of my clematis were being eaten...totally defoliated. The varieties attacked were mostly Willy, Avante Garde, and a few others.

The culprit was some insect that looked very similar to the common firefly. Although there was no "glowing" on the insect, it did share the same body type. It took only a few of these guys to defoliate an entire clematis. I had never seen these guys before, and I hope I don't have them each year. I did take a picture of them that I can post if anyone wants to see them.

Does anyone else have this happening in their gardens?

Robert
