Most likely, I'll be the one in the purple polo shirt that says "Historic Rose Garden, Sacramento, California." That should make me fairly easy to spot, I bet! I haven't done much for Kelly and the Wooster garden, but I'd love to do more! There was talk of trying to put together a team to help identify the roses, and I'd like to make that happen. There was also talk of a regional HRF symposium there, and I'd certainly help if I could. I visit Ohio three or four times a year because my mother is still on the farm there, north of Dayton, so it's not like I'm making a separate trip. I'm retired, so have quite a bit of available time, although it seems that I'm volunteering somewhere just about as much (or more) than I used to work! Anita

Well I have finished all the deadheading for bloom I plan to do, though I'm sure I'll do clean up along the way. One nice side benefit is all the cut roses in the house. They are in vases all over the place. Normally I am reluctant to cut roses to bring inside. I never think there are enough in the garden to sacrifice any for the house! Anyway, the vase of Memorial Day perfumes the entire room it is in. I like it best of the modern HTs I grow. (I like Oklahoma a lot too, but it doesn't produce nearly as many roses.) The fragrance is incredible. This is one of the HTs I planted to produce cut flowers for my MIL some years back when she lived in a nursing home. Eventually some of them went the way of the shovel, but I kept my favorites. Memorial Day may well be the best of the best. Healthy here, and the most incredible pure rose fragrance you can imagine. Thank you all for your replies. I live in Chester County, PA, right near the Del border. I have grown old roses here for a dozen years or so and am unaware of any local old rose groups in my area. I looked at the HRG national website and see that I am technically in the NE region, but near the border of the SE--which makes some sense, as the old European once bloomers grow here effortlessly, *and* we also have good luck with most noisettes and some teas, plants you might associate more with the SE. I gather it is necessary to sign up with a REgion, so I've sent an em to the person identified as the coordinator for the NE region. (No response yet--is the website up to date?) But given my proximity to the SE region as well, and my interest in some of the southern roses, I think I might like to try to get on that group's newsletter mailing list as well. I gather the HRF is not organized on a regional or local basis. I gues I just sign up nationally on the website? By the way, are the older HTs considered on topic or off topic for these two groups? thank you again. j

Thanks for the responces. It is true I saw the Strawberry circles on ebay. I have been able to pick up 20% of the list through people on the internet at an average price of $10 ea. So far so good. Of whats left, and the new additions to the list, Michaels only has a few and he may not want to send to CA with out some giant permit fee. I will test them when I have exhausted all other options.
