Robert in the English Roses Forum wrote this, "If you really love something, go for it, regardless of others' experiences."

I chickened out of Jude the Obscure, Rouge Royal, and Brother Cadfael, due to others' negative report of them as 1st year own-roots ..... I should had known that everyone's soil and climate is different. Bad luck for others might be success for my garden.

It differs within my garden. Eglantyne gave me hell the 1st year, one died through the winter. I had to move it 4 times before it could bloom, it had BS last fall. The second year, it's a delight, no need to water, healthy, and blooms well. That's my surprise, what are the lessons learned and surprises in your garden?
