It's nice, but as Ken says, there are other blues. No one can tell me my geranium Rozanne is not blue, or my Johnson's Blue. I still think my Virginia Bluebells are blue, though sky blue. I was on a blue kick a while back and have a fair bit of blue. I can sympathize on the issue, though, of purple or violet flowers being called blue.(like some salvias like May Night.) There is nothing wrong with purple, just call it that.

Thanks - - -I guess it will be worth the wait, the picture on the seed pack is very pretty. I also decided today that because the space that the seedlings went into usually gets weedy (it's sort of in ackward corner that doesn't get a lot of attention)the growing plants (without flower even) will take up room that weeds would fill, so it's FINE. I can wait.

I've grown balloon flowers for years and always got frustrated when they grew too tall and flopped over. Year before last I staked them but last year I took my courage and pruners in both hands, whacked them down to about 8" the last week of May and waited to see what would happen. At first it's scary because they seep milky white sap from the cut stems but give them a couple weeks and they send out new growth. They turn into a blooming machine and just keep going like the little pink bunny. I took this picture last summer when they were blooming so fast I couldn't snap the pictures fast enough. This is a single plant I bought 8 or 10 years ago. They produce lots and lots of seed that's easy to harvest because the seedpods are upward facing. There are dwarf purple balloon flowers blooming now at the entrance to the office where I work and you can bet your last bottom dollar if they set seed I'll be harvesting seeds in a few weeks.
