Wish I knew I got a small offshoot 1 year ago in spring of a large(giant) white calla it grew alot but no blooms. I brought it in for winter and it got very leggy and lost alot of leaves. This spring I repotted it and it has grown but no flowers. Do they need full sun?? Lots of fert?

Does it get enough water? Mine grows in a very shallow spot in a pond and blooms like crazy for at least 6 month till summer heat stops it.

I assume it gets enough water, as the leaves are so plentiful and look great. What, I wonder would make an otherwise healthy, robust specimen not have blooms?

Sometimes when colored calla bulbs get too large, they don't flower as well. This fall, dig up the bulbs and separate them, and next year they should be blooming well. Also, don't plant the bulbs too close together.

White Aethiopica do well in ponds or bogs, colored callas will rot and die. The growing conditions for white and colored varieties are completely different. The problem is, there is also a white flower that falls under the colored varieties... check the bulb for your growing conditions. Round flat bulbs should be watered and then allowed to dry a bit; while oblong, potato like bulbs can take the wet.

If you soak it in gibberellic acid it will bloom in profusion, spathes might be deformed tho' I mean double or curly

Thanks honneybunny, that was very good information. I think mine may be in an area too hot for good blooms. it is full sun from early til late, although I have mulched heavily, it may not be enough to keep the calla cool. Since it is healthy otherwise, I'll try a part-shade spot next year and have the soil checked for PH. Thanks!
