I can help out with some wondering with my cut & paste from the Aroid Forum - Here it is along with the respective dates. Tue, May 29, 07 Thought I would inform Calla Lily lovers in cold climates of a species/form that will grow where winters can be cold. I live outside of Buffalo, NY (zone 6) and planted Z. aetheopica 'Crowborough' form. It survived the winter of 2006/07 and is beginning to put on good healthy vigorus growth. I was very casual about protecting it as our winter began extremely mild. That changed in the middle of January, however it still survived! We get snow cover that acts as insulation. I bought it from Arrowhead Alpines. It has not bloomed yet, but possibly this summer. Wed, Jul 18, 07 Update on Zantedeschia aethiopica 'Crowborough'. My plant is growing quite vigorously and looks very healthy. No bloom as of yet, I think it may need to mature. I checked it as of 11:44AM, 7/18/07 I planted out in a south west exposure in a well drained area of my yard. I water it occasionally as it has been a dry year. I planted it last year and casually protected it. Since our winter was quite harsh from mid January to April and it is growing good, I would say it is hardy to Zone 6 which I am. I bought this from Arrowhead Alpines. This is reputed to be the hardiest Z. aethiopica form according to my research. I recommend it. August 13 - update: It is growing despite our dry conditions here in the Buffalo, NY area. No flowers as of this date. This winter, I shall mulch it better than laste winter. It looks really good and grew back this spring despite looking like cooked spinach due to winter!

Your peace lily looks to be in rather good shape for being "dumped" The only thing I would do is maybe pinch off any leaves that don't look all that healthy, maybe some that are yellowing (can't see them all from photo) or have holes, or rips If it were mine, I'd keep it in the same pot for now, it looks to be the right size for the plant. If you decide to keep it after all and want a different looking pot, either use another one that's the same size pot that it's in now, or one that's just an inch around larger and only if the roots are badly root-bound. Most plants, including the peace lily's like to be on the root-bound side anyway. The brown water is probably just from the soil, but with the right watering, it should run pretty clear after a while. Put it where it will get bright indirect light, no direct sun, or the leaves will burn. Water it thoroughly when the top inch of soil is getting close to dry, not dry as a bone dried out though. You want the soil to be semi most at all times, not wet and never dried out completely. I water mine almost always, once a week which is in a 10" pot during the warmer month, a little less in winter. The brown leaf tips could be from under or over-watering, maybe too much fertilizer. I think I would just water it for now and in the spring & summer months, give it very diluted amounts when you water. Good luck with your orphan! Billy Rae

I suspect too much water. Cut back on the watering and see if that helps. Also, try moving one to a sunnier spot. If it blooms good, you'll know they needed more light. If these don't get enough light they won't bloom at all.

There are several different leaf shapes. Remove the yellow leaf at once! Use some liquid calcium. Hope the leaf is just not drying out very quickly. Actually, by the time you read this, if your plant has not become a puddle of clear watery goo my alarm is just a false alarm. There is a disease called Rot that will destroy a calla in a matter of hours and presents like that. I lost over 300 callas in two beds in 3 days and there was nothing to do but sit and cry. In any case ALWAYS use a fertilizer with calcium. Bone Meal has about 15% by weight but it isn't all available. A good bulb fertilizer should have a high percentage of calcium. If your plant has bloomed, it will need a rest in order to produce new flowers. Set it to one side and allow it to dry out. Don't fertilize and keep it cool. After about 6 weeks, water, fertilize and let it have more light and warmth. It should set blooms in a short time. The blooms will likely be white. I expect it is Zantedeschia aethiopica. Outdoors, it does will as a bog plant or a marginal pond plant as that is how the original grows in South Africa. There are many cultivars. Sandy
