Does Japanese Anemone 'September Charm' rebloom?

I have a Japanese Anemone "September Charm" that finally bloomed for the first time this year! I planted this beauty in the fall of 2007 - it grew but did not bloom last year. This year, it is magnificent! Now that the first flush of blooms is over, do I need to "deadhead"? Will it rebloom again? I would very much appreciate your advice! Thanks.

I just bought 2 of these this summer. They are loaded with buds and will be blooming soon. Don't know about rebloomer.

I have had Honorine Jobert and September Charm for several years. They begin blooming in late Aug. for me and do not rebloom. Their bloom period often lasts into early Oct. or whenever we have a freeze. Sometimes they are out their blooming their hearts out in 50 degree rainy weather.

September Charm = Anemone hupehensis. It is included in a grouping of anemones referred to as Japanese anemone. Robustissiam = Anemone tomentosa a.k.a. grapeleaf anemone. Japanese anemones are considered better behaved/easier to control, although they will spread where they are happy and some do consider them to be on the invasive side. I don't consider them invasive in the my yard, but they have spread quite a bit, and I do have to pull up runners (easy to do, though, but will re-sprout if even just a bit of root left). GORGEOUS plant, both in foliage and bloom. I don't have September Charm, though. I have Honorine Jobert (the most pristine white I think I've ever seen) and Pamina, a rich deep hot pink cultivar. Grapeleaf anemones are in many cases considered thugs, so keep that in mind if you are considering this one. It is a lovely plant, though. I have a few planted in really cr@ppy conditions, and they don't really thrive let alone take over the yard like they're known to, so it's not a problem for me. Still, beware.... The two look very much alike in foliage to my eye. I'm sure there's a difference, perhaps the foliage is a little larger on the grapeleafs, but since my grapeleafs haven't really done anything and certainly aren't anywhere near being lush specimens, I'm not really sure. Grapeleaf flowers are pretty much the same as pink Japanese anemones, but they do bloom earlier - they get started early August, wherease the Japanese get started more toward fall (anywhere from late August through September, depending on cultivar).

1. I've had no problem with planting Japanese anemones in the fall, so if it were me, I'd plant now. Others have had conflicting experiences, though, based on what I've read in other posts. 2. Anemones spread by running. Just like anything else that runs, who knows how big it will ultimately get. Sun to part shade and moister soil are what anemones love, so if you have these conditions, spread will be at a faster clip, lush growth. If you want to control spread, just yank up the runners, they aren't deep-rooted, so a good yank and pull should do it. Foliage height doesn't really get over 12" or so, so makes a nice lower plant, beautiful lush foliage. The blooms are on top of long, wiry stalks, so gives a breezy "see-through" effect.

I think Honorine Jobert is a hybrid - Anemone x hybrida - so it would not come true from seed. If it's happy, it spreads by runners. Mine took a while to get established, but now has spread pretty nicely - there are several crowns, spaced by about a foot each in all directions from the parent plant. If I were you, I'd give it a nice compost mulch, keep it watered well through the fall, cross my fingers, and swear off buying plants on ebay.

Thank you, GardenHo, it may appear shorter than it actually is since the stems have fallen forward onto the nearby persicaria "Golden Arrows". (Upright it would be 3 feet in height). deannatoby and gdinieontario the color combo is strictly accidental (heck I previously attempted to remove this anemone!)

No rebloom, but the blooming period is at least a solid month, if not more, on established plants I have.

Mollydog, it is supposed to do best in a partial shade location. Mind you, I have it in a location where it indirectly gets the strong afternoon sun, but it seems to have done well with plenty of moisture. That said, I am only in zone 5b...

Ostrich, you can deadhead or not as you please. If you wish to tidy up your garden for winter, you can cut the stems back to one foot or so from the ground after they have finished blooming. If you like the look of the bare stems, you can cut them back in the early spring. Jap. Anemones are usually propagated from root cuttings or division. I don't know if many people grow them from seed.

My September Charm began blooming in early August and hasn't stopped blooming yet. This plant grows like crazy, I've only had mine for two years and it's bloomed every summer/fall, the bees and butterflys seem to love it. By the looks of the size this year, I'll most likely have to divide it next summer or it will be growing into my fall mums.

I went to my yard this afternoon, and noticed that actually there are many buds coming out again! WOW! However, they seem to be smaller than the ones from the first flush... let's see what happens!
