Bareroot roses

Hello All

I purchased several bareroot roses this year and being new to roses and fairley new to gardening I did not realize you are suposed to prune them before planting, anyways each rose has new growth only on half of the canes. My question is should I prune the other half back or leave it?

Thanks

Jenn
