When to plant new potted roses in ground?

It's still the hot, hot summer here in New England, and I've been keeping my half-dozen band-size climbing rose plants alive (and well) by watering them deeply daily, unless we get a long soaking rain. They are in the sun in terra cotta pots. They all show new growth. But at some point they must go into the ground well before frost time.

Frost dates here in coastal RI are mid-to-end October. I want those baby roses settled in to good heavily manured soil before then. How many weeks before frost do you advise me to plant them? And then should I mulch them heavily for the winter? Each one will be planted near, or in front of, an 8 ft. tall pole. The roses are alba maxima, alba semi-plena, Alberic Barbier, Dainty Bess, Sombreuil and (soon) Gardenia (thank you, Rogue Valley, for the replacement).
