I've only used it once-last weekend. The JBs are still here but in lesser numbers. Also, I don't see as many of them propagating (to put it delicately) as usual. Yesterday, I noticed several instances where only 1 JB was on a rose. I'll keep using it and see what happens. The JBs have not been here that long, I'd say about 3 weeks. The summer is still young.

miracle organic product

Until researchers come up with a JB-targeted microbe that is much more effective than Milky Spore (while still being non-toxic to mammals, birds, fish, bees, etc.) I dont think there is such a thing as a miracle organic product. Even the non-"organic" toxic pesticides are not wholly effective.

If it would stop raining I think I would have better luck (not complianing about the rain). But on the few times I was able to spray I did notice less beetles.

I have just about the same experience with BBB's as Ms. Rosenpots. I think it actually repels the beetles but it has been raining here too so it washes off. I'm thinking I'll try spraying again this weekend.

As Carole stated, BBB repells the beetles with out killing the good bugs and insects.

Terry, if you are still having a big beetle problem might I suggest you place a few traps away from your roses. I am thinking if they get repelled they will go into the traps and DIE. Just a thought.

Also, do you treat your yard with milkyspores or grubx? I did a few times this year and I think that is why I do not have as many.

$40 will buy you almost 10 gallons of gas.

They make the product as well as a whole line of Rose Care and other products that are all natural or organic. I use their Peter Beales Natural Rose Care line.

I've been having luck with the drought keeping the JBs at bay....Not that I suggest that.

Buford, yes, the beetles and mosquitos were less before our everyday storm showers. But who can knock the rain and not having to water pots everyday.

Karl -...it was a typo. Meant to say "it IS expensive". And with almost 200 roses plus all the clematis, wisteria, hibiscus, etc. to treat, it's a lot of $$$.

I made the rounds several times again yesterday after I increased the dosage to 6 oz. per gallon and it appears it has helped somewhat. Funny Face, who has been infested, only had a few chomping away. And I didn't find any at all on Lady Bird Johnson clematis in front of the house (she's HUGE and they've been taking over there).

But still, the JBs were still on Cuthert Grant and Julia Child and some others that I did spray. So I continue to pick and drown. Sure wish the birds ate 'em.

Terry, what town do you live in? I'm in Decatur and I have only seen two beetles in my garden. Of course I put on Merit granules over my beds. So I killed the grubs that were growing in my beds. So the only ones I'm getting are fly-byes.

carla, it's a doubled edge sword. We've had lots of rain this week (yeah!) but I just went out to clean out some dead stuff out of my butterfly garden and I swear I have 70 mosquito bites! I had to take a benedryl...

But yes, the rain is nice.

Dan, I'm in Tremont, right outside of Pekin. This is the second year for the JBs; they must be coming in from the soybean fields.

I'm north of you in LaSalle, and there are more JBs than I've ever seen. Thought maybe it had to do with all the rain we've had. Broke down and bought BBB never know if you don't try. Really there are so many JBs they keep flying into me while I'm outside even landing on my head. I'm sorry to say it didn't work, maybe slowed them down for a day or so but thats all for me. I could go out without being eaten alive my mosquitos for a few days that was amazing. A good thing I guess as I couldn't really afford to use it for long anyway.

I wouldn't think another one of those "deterrent by odor" sprays would work on them.

Patti - I know what you mean about being swarmed. I had on a hot pink tank top one day and they were landing on me. Guess they thought I was a rose. It's bad when you can just be outside and can recognize JBs 'flight pattern' sound without seeing them.

I don't use insectides so I'll pick and pick until they're gone. And since I have 2.5 acres, it's not practical or economical to use Milky Spore or Grub-X.
