The nice thing about Ebay is they scrambled the ID names now. Use to prior to them scrambling if I knew a person bidding I wouldn't bid against them. I missed out on some plants I wanted through the years because of that. But I felt it more important to honor friendship. Now with them scrambled you don't know who you bid against and that makes me feel better when bidding on a plant that already has bids. haha.
From the Hoya forum I knew alot of the ID's back then.
The shipping in Ebay for leaves blows my mind on some sellers. If I find a leaf (set) I want I always check what else that seller has up for auction to get my moneys worth on the shipping. If that seller has nothing else I want but the 1 leaf I pass up on it with them and search with other sellers and do the same routine to find more to ship together. Just seems more economical to me to ship a fuller box for same shipping price. *wink*,,,Debbie

I have tried for Emerald Love a couple times--not recently tho : ) Am eagerly waiting on 2 chimeras I "won" on Ebay now. That time lapse on the bud was way cool! Wish I had time and equipment to do that on a couple of plants.

I can't bear to have them ship just one thing either - the 2 I'm waiting on should have been 3 or 4 plants but my internet froze on one & I wasn't at the computer when the other one ended.

Which Chimera's Mary? I've been looking at them in Ebay and on the net but am trying to wait till Spring before I order/bid on one. I really like the ones with the variegated leaves. Don't ya know they are the most expensive! My husband says I could walk into a store with no price tags and the items I liked would by chance be the most expensive in the store! haha. Guess I have a knack for it but innocently.
I'm hoping come Spring the plantlets from my leaves I can use to trade with members here and someone will have a Chimera sucker extra. I realize it would 'cost' me more violets to trade for one though probably.

Debbie - I LOVE Chimeras..DH thinks I have tooooooo many. Started with Pony Ride from a show/sale. I remember the guy trying to explain what it was and why it was special and how lucky I was to get it. I just thought it was pretty-hahahaha! This is so strange, Debbie, but I was going to post a message asking if anyone that belongs to this forum sells on Ebay. No reason, just curious.
Also, have been wondering if I was bidding against someone here on the forum when I bought my violets the first week of November on Ebay.
I would think that would happen quite a bit. Even though the name of the bidder is scrambled you can tell if they are bidding from other sellers by the number in their ID.

Was that you that made me bid so high? Don't know what got into me, but I must stay away from Ebay for awhile.
My plants came, and looked to be in good condition. The one shipment was two very large plants, one blooming. The other was 4 small plants. The 4 small plants look a little odd to me, centers seem kind of hard. I may be a bit paranoid after my trouble with the broad mites before.
My old plants look great now. No blooms yet though.
I put the new one in a different room and also isolated them from each other. Being very careful.

Nope wasn't me Gal on Harmony's Frilly Dealy. You should go to the Blossom, Birds & Butterflies site. She lists not only Harmony's Frilly Dealy but 2 sports of it as well! This way if you email her and ask if she has plantlets or leaves you have no bidding war. Her prices on plantlets off her site run usually between 4.70-4.95. Very reasonable. Leaves if that's all she has of those run $2 for 2 or 1.25 for 1.
I prefer the Buy It Now auctions. If I have to bid and I win I usually check if they have any Buy It Now's to make the shipping worth my while.
Whoa! On hard centers! Maybe they just are craving more light than they were getting prior to you getting them. Good you separated them so you can watch them.
The highest I've paid for a violet so far was one called Fruit Fly. It went out at $13 and its a micro mini. Seemed alot to pay but I really wanted it. I asked if she had another for a friend and got it for 4.95 from her at the same time. haha.
You can avoid Ebay by doing a Google search on the AV and see what web retailers sell it for. Then you have a base price knowing you can get it elsewhere and not have to bid high.
I don't know of any sellers here in this forum and I don't think it's allowed for them to say they sell. But I'm betting some do sell their excess in Ebay.,,,Debbie

Thanks for that bit of info Debbie greatly appreciated.Since I don't really know what I should pay,being too new,I am keeping my base price to pay at 5 dollars on Ebay. I know this is probably too low for anything new but until I learn more about the varieties I am going to play it safe. I just got a Great deal on 22 av's mini,semi mini and standards(holiday sale and free shipping on purchase of 20 and another seller who had great prices also. Both sellers had feedback of 4.9-5.0 I think that I did good,we shall see.
