female guppy aggression
Comments (4)yep, leave it to me to have tempermental guppies. since the male has been gone, it seems worse. very strange. well, i have 2 now, in a 10 gal and they could use more plants. right now, i have some hanging suction cupped plant int here meant for terrariums that really does give a lot of cover for a plastic plant. not enough though. i say i am down to 2 guppies b/c i got sick to death of my angel aggression and placed the beast in with the guppies. it has me so p-o'd and so do the guppies...fend for yourselves i thought- if angel gets sick so be it. if little guppies get eaten or ms. orange gets harassed, so be it. wrong for me to be that way, but i am being honest. honestly, i am surprised the angel didn't choke on that month old guppy (that didn't bother anybody except the 2 day old one). unfortunately, ms. half black is now seriously hiding, but sometimes my movement freaks her out. other times, she goes nuts begging for food. i just never know how they will react. 2 angels and 3 cories in the other 10 gallon was just way too many. that beast was non stop in the 25 and would be non stop in a 75, i am sure of it. it was the healthies of the two angels, and now it looks like it has issues which i believe either existed while in the other 10, or resulted from my netting it. i don't know about plants in my guppy tank working, but i know it didn't deter that angel. all the plants i had in the 25 went into the 10 but it still managed to beat my other angel into the ground. the barracuda. oops, so we were talking about guppies! ms. orange finds her no matter where she is sometimes. why? b/c she follows her around constantly. she used to just follow. without the male, she has taken to being very physical. i have never seen such aggression in a guppy, but i am not experienced with them, either. i must say, the angel kept her distracted it was freaked out from the move. they both came in to check it out but not too closely :)...See Moreguppy fry!
Comments (4)I can't help with this litter, but I can help with the next. First, a 1-gallon tank is too small for a pair of guppies. A 5-gallon tank would be better for them (though a 10 is even better, and for some reason cheaper), and you can choke the back of it with real or fake plants (leaving lots of room in the front for swimming). When the female has her next litter (probably in a month), the fry will be able to swim into the plants and live in safety. (You could move the pregnant female to a separate tank where she can give birth and then move her back, but that can stress her too much, causing her to give birth early and possibly die.) The babies will later need to be moved to a larger tank where they can grow, but not until they're old enough to handle the stress of moving. After the first few times, your guppies will have no interest at all in eating their fry, so you'll have them coming out your ears. Make sure you plan what you're going to do with all those fish....See MoreFancy Tailed Guppy Behavior
Comments (58)hello, you guys seem really well informed.. i have two female guppies who are both prego. i have a white female (whity) and a bigger blue female (big mama). Whity, this is her first batch, seems ready to give birth any minute just because i can see the baby eye moving down, square belly, but when i put her in the breeder nothing happens for a 2 days. i let her out between for exceres and she seems still socail and playful. whats her deal? and with Big Mama she is big already and always seem ready to pop lol, but realilitcally she has a black G spot and is hiding from the others, and hasnt quite spuard off yet but its starting to. can you help me figure out what to do...See MoreCabbage: Do you grow it? Comments (68)aok27502- There are any number of vegetarian recipes that work well as substitutes for ground beef in recipes. These are three recipes I have in my file. #1 Ground Beef Substitute 1 c. lentils 1 c. rice 4 c. water Cook like rice and use as a substitute for ground beef. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ #2 Ground Beef Substitute 1/2 c. quinoa* 1 vegetable bouillon cube (or beef flavored) 1 c. water 2 T. olive oil 1/2 medium onion, finely chopped 2 t. minced garlic 1 (15.5) can black beans (UNdrained) In a saucepan, bring 1 c. water and bouillon cube to a b oil. Add quinoa, stir, and reduce to a simmer. Cook until water is absorbed (approx. 20-minutes). Meanwhile, heat olive oil in skillet over med. heat. Add onion, stirring to coat, then garlic. Saute until translucent. Add beans and bring to a simmer, until heated thoroughly. At this point mash some of the beans with a potato masher. Once quinoa is cooked, mix it into the beans. Flavor to taste or to the purpose you will be using the substitute. Makes six 1/2-cup servings. *If you happen to have red quinoa, it has better color than white quinoa for this recipe, but either will work. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ #3 Ground Beef Substitute http://veggieconverter.com/whole-food-vegetarian-ground-beef-substitute-recipe/...See Moreglen3a
