Recall reading why fancy goldfish changed colors. Then...
Comments (4)Hi I got back into goldfish in Feb. due to a freeze of my tropical fish. Fearing mosquitoes after ths total loss I put some "feeder" goldfish in the 5x10 pool. Anyway they spawned ,I'm guessing 3 times judging fron the sizes of the offspring. When about an inch long had nmany different colors including brown and black. The older ones are now either completely gold or white and gold. Some complete whites . Have also noticed some are growing the long flowing fins not displayed in the originals. these are also becoming very white in the fins only. a couple have fins twice body length already. Amazed at the variety ,considering the parents are just very ordinary solid colored short finned .typical goldsish lol Don't know what I'll do when they spawn again as I'm guessing there are well over 100 in less than a year. I was never able to keep GF in the past due to Herons But if they're catching some it's sure not obvious!!! lol. gary...See Moreguppies chemical sensitive?
Comments (7)fairy: I was having tremendous problems with my guppies (when raised them 30 years ago no such problems) always getting this or that. They scratched as yours are, but no spots indicating ich, so from my research can be parasites/bacteria - without a microscope who knows for sure - but many problems making it seem like a nightmare, not the guppies I had as a kid, lol. First group had horrible gill inflamation and died shortly (pet store not exactly healthy source). Seems inbreeding and more toxicity in today's water makes them more vunerable them before. Then after doing much serching on the web, started aging and filtering my nyc water (horrible water). Now in mint condition. No more flukes, ich, or what ever they had before - many many problems prior, dropped like flies. I have a huge fluval (sp) filter with chemical remover pad and activated charcoal, and put filtered (from shower head) cold water in it (hot may have toxic chems from water tank). Made a huge difference. From the copious research I did for my guppies, it seems they are more delicate then ever before, and now I use them as indicator fish ie if they get sick something is wrong with my water... This is only my experience, but plants (they like the algae) aged (I try to use after 3rd day at least) triple dipple filtered water, plus a little aquarium salt and higher ph, made a HUGE difference. Actually no more deaths since... (well expect some from old age at some point, lol) Best to you... Sherry...See MoreKiller guppy...
Comments (6)I would think that a danio could out run an attack from a fancy tail guppy. Those huge tails kind of weigh them down some. I recently lost a fancy tail I had for about 2 years and he would kind of swim up to a platy and poke at him but not really nip. Just kind of bump his nose against him like a pesty little brother. I guess anything is possible though. Just keep an eye on him and check with your freind to see if there are any more deaths or injuries. Good luck....See Moreguppies??
Comments (5)Same here and got mine from petland, they had to destroy tank they came from. I am treating two remaining males (gave others away) who have curved spines (one sideways other arched) which indicates inbreeding, not being fed properly when young so on... Now treating for fin tail rot... heard another person while at same store said all the guppies he got from new arrivals have died. I had to treat all the fish from there for ick, four times, which stressed the cories and one died... Now two tanks seem to be doing ok, babies from previous guppy moms who later had to be put down, are doing ok, but don't look as fancy thats for sure.... water in NYC not so great as well... all readings normal... have added salt but not too much as have cories who are sensitive... from what I have read, as sierra mentions old by the time you get them, best are sold elsewhere, and much inbreeding over the decades and worsening water world wide due to heavy metals so on, makes them less hardy then when we were younger.... they were very hard then as I recall... now seem to be my least hardy.. Best Sherry...See Morewoeisme
