what to plant -FULL - full sun

We have an area in our garden that gets full sun - full morning and full afternoon sun. I say that because it seems the designation "full sun" does not always really mean full sun as in my garden area. We have tried campanula three years now and although this plant is rated as "full sun", it is not making it. What we would like for this space is for a continuously blooming low growing perennial that would make a nice border in front of some pink volcano phlox. I am afraid to try something else that assures me it is "full sun" without knowing others' experiences.

Any suggestions?

Rozanne Geranium or Cranesbill sanguineum, Album
Salvia farinaceas (not perennial, but would be gorgeous),

and my number one recommendation: Kalimeris Blue Star (very nice, very neat, long bloomer in MY full sun, so yours would be a piece of cake.

Sedum Bertram Anderson (red foliage) or fleece flower (polygonum affine).

I didn't have specific plants just yet, but one idea was an Azalea. I was reading some plant descriptions on ones I liked and some say "Morning sun with afternoon shade only" So I was looking into a solution to prevent them from getting too hot and still get enough sun on the west side of a building. (Afternoon sun only area). Will some shade cloth work? Something like a tight mesh over it?

Well so much for the traditional Victoria Day gardening weekend :-/. It looked like we might get some sun in Monday, but that's been pushed back to Wednessday. And I think I spoke too soon about the flooding - some areas have been evacuated yesterday and today. My tomatoes haven't grown an inch in two weeks, neither have most herbs and my other veggies. The perennials are sulking now too. janetr - you know what really ticks me off about the squirrels destroying my Alliums? They didn't even eat them! They picked off the flower bud, took a chomp out of it, threw it away (after all, they don't like them...) and moved on to the next one. I had a couple of dozen, including some 'Globemasters', and they're all picked. Every. Last. One. BP

What sun plants can take sprinklers every night?

I would ask why the sprinklers come on every night - grass? Nothing needs water every day, even grass. I'd see if the sprinkler schedule could be changed to 1-3x a week, with 1-hour soakings. Lee Anna

Spring is finally back!!! I'm hoping to have my veg. garden ready for plantings and transplants tomorrow. I took the year off last year (other than a few tomatoes in containers) and am starting a new garden this year. We'll do cucumber, zuccini, beans, tomatoes, and pumpkins for sure. Need to finish planning tonight. What kinds of tomatoes do you all prefer? I will probably make some salsa, but will mainly have them for sandwiches and just plain (or w/ mot. cheese and vinegar). Any recommendations? Greenthumbelina - Noble usually has very nice stuff, although I've never shopped there for veggies. I also like Tamblyn's Nursery. It's a family run business just east of Noble. Their veggies and herbs are nice and as cheap as I've seen. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

You mentioned "continuously blooming" as a requirement - if that requirement is an absolute, then consider planting an annual in that location. Vinca (Catharanthus) are superb in full sun, as are petunias, marigolds, and I'm sure there are more.

The continuously-blooming part may be difficult. I was going to say sedum until I saw that.

Well, I have a veronica called Blue Carpet that I use as an edging in one of my hot, dry beds, and it does quite well. The foliage is only about three inches high, and the bloom spikes are maybe 6 to eight inches. It does not bloom continously, but it does rebloom.

I'd still have to go with the sedum - not continous bloom but the foliage is so pretty...
