john deere 285 re-power part two

OK. The seized Kawasaki is out. I looked the Kohler, and the Briggs over briefly, and it looks like the 19hp Briggs is going to mount up better, so that's what I am going to re-power with.

Again the old engine shaft size was 1 1/8", and the new is 1" diameter, so the old pulley stack, and PTO clutch is out of the picture.

I do not use the tractor as a mower, so the cutting deck has been gone for some time.

Would it be better to replace the whole pulley stack with one with a 1" bore even though I don't need them both, or can I use a single steel v-belt 1" bore pulley with a set screw, and keyway. The shaft has a 1/4" keyway. I am concerned with that set screw loosening up as they can do from the load, and vibration and the pulley then sliding down the shaft.
