Take a stick to your dealer and beat them with it until they treat you with some respect.

If your drain tube looks like this;

Hold the black tube with a wrench -- then turn the gray plastic plug to the left--on occasion the first time they can be real hard to remove.

Here is a picture of my X304. Put a wrench on #1 to hold it steady (if necessary) and turn #2 counterclockwise to loosen. You should be able to loosen it by hand.

Yes the last picture is the one. I just did the oil change on my X304 and the oil filter was a bear to take off. Almost had to wreck the entire old oil filter to get it off.

if any of you fine folks live in Connecticut let me know because I owe you a beer!! My very first oil change was successful. My question next question is what do you use to catch the oil? I've read some folks use 2 liter bottoms with the tops cut off, any suggestions? I used a paint container and it worked well but other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Yes, I know that many years ago our neighbor used to dump it into a hole in his backyard. It was a poor choice, especially as he lived rght next to a local lake.

I bring mine into a local oil change place.

reuse it somewhere else or dispose of it at the proper oil collecting facility (auto zone, gas station, oil change place).

I use my old oil for my chain saw bar.Store in large jug and use as needed.

If you're going to put used motor oil to lube your chainsaw bar, you might as well put it in a garden sprayer and shoot it all over the ground. USED CRANKCASE OIL IS A CARCINOGENIC! Unlike fresh bar oil, used crankcase oil and its additives have broken down into polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and accumulated heavy metals from the wear and combustion in the engine. It needs to be disposed of and recycled properly. Please go buy some proper bar oil, and take your old crankcase oil to Wal Mart for recycling. You're not only contaminating ground water with barium, arsenic and lead, and breaking scores of fish and amphibian lifecycles, but by using old crankcase as bar oil, you're inhaling the atomized poison directly as you cut firewood. So the person most likely to get cancer from your bad practices is you.
My warnings may sound a little harsh, but considering the fact that go through an entire quart of proper bar oil when processing a large oak tree for firewood, and you're probably using a lot more oil because motor oil is much lighter and flows more freely through the lube system, what you're doing is equivalent to parking your riding mower in the woods and pulling the oil plug every time you use your chain saw.

It should go without saying that spraying used crankcase oil on your stone driveway to keep the dust down is equally wrong.

Besides, used crankcase oil has lost many of its lubricating properties and contains small bits of metal...that's why you changed it.

I've read that using used crankcase oil as bar oil is not much better than running your chain dry.

Just before it was drained, it was lubricating and protecting the engine. What would make it become so harmful after being drained?

If large quantities build up it is taken to disposal area.
Grandpa did it(lived to 91), dad did it (still living @ 83.)Anything is harmful the right proportion. The oil is not stockpiled for years on end nor is the chain saw used 24/7. Didn't know you were a professor (marine guy).

The fact that really bothers me is, that crap is the lifeblood of my $2000 engine, but will immediately destroy my $30 chain and bar.

Plus, in the engine, it goes around and around, while on the chain and bar, I'd guess, 2 revolutions at the most.

Who said that?

You can run an engine with dirty oil and it won't be immediately destroyed either. However, the engine will experience higher than normal wear. The same thing will happen with a bar and chain.

Also, keep in mind that there are environmental concerns as MarineGuy explained.

If I were a professor I probably would have used proper grammar and said "Used crankcase oil is a carcinogen."
As a Marine pilot I probably have the most varied job of anyone I know. The pilot part pretty much stays the same, but my ground job changes every year as part of the natural rotation around the squadron, and has included being an Operations Planner, an Information Systems Security Officer, a Logistician, and an Officer-In-Charge of various maintenance departments. While serving as the Airframes Division OIC, I was also the Environmental Compliance Officer, which meant I was responsible for the training of all mechanics in the proper usage, storage and disposal of hazardous materials. If Private Jones decided to dump a bucket of JP-5 down a storm drain after taking fuel samples, both I and my CO would be nailed with a $30,000 EPA fine. So I take Haz-Mat pretty seriously. I won't even throw a dead rechargable battery in the trash.
