Question on Layering with Newspaper

I've started sheet composting an area in my back yard which I intend to use as a perennial bed, I already have a few plants in this bed. I laid down a few layers of newspaper and cardboard and have been adding grass clippings, leaves, and scrapes from my kitchen, apple peels, coffee grinds and egg shells, on top of this newspaper. Am I on the right track, is it okay to do this at this time of year? Will I have decent soil to plant in when the spring comes?

Oh, main question being, when laying down newspaper, it's been very hard to find black and white print newspapers these days, all of them seem to have a little bit of color on every page, would it be harmful if I laid down newspaper with a little bit of color on it, or should I just keep cutting all the color parts out? This is all fine and dandy but doesn't leave me very much newspaper after I'm done.

Thanks!

Linda
